    Wonder why I bother sometimes!

Agree with the general point here, but I didn't say that I let nailed-on misconduct go? I'd never do that in any type of game. This was a challenge that fell between careless and reckless and, given that it was the first challenge of any real note and there had been nothing to suggest that the...

    Wonder why I bother sometimes!

Thanks, as always, to everyone for the helpful and supportive replies. Obviously easier with hindsight, but I think it's pretty clear that I should have found a way to deal with the half time behaviour. Even now I'm not sure how I'd have gone about that being on my own with no assistants, but...

    Wonder why I bother sometimes!

This was U16! I did consider it, and with hindsight it would have been the right decision. How would you suggest approaching that situation? It would look a bit odd walking into a team talk to dismiss the coach. Would you perhaps wait until the team are heading back onto the pitch?

    Spurs vs Liverpool

Has to go i think. It’s late, it’s high and he’s taking a massive risk, but can see why VAR didn’t think it was C+O.

    Wonder why I bother sometimes!

Context - I was allocated two youth games at the same ground for yesterday. Early game was lost due to a COVID outbreak in the away team (familiar story the last few weeks) but the home side organised a friendly, which I agreed to ref. Still needed to go for my late game anyway, so made sense...

    Newcastle v City

You just have to laugh! That has to be a lack of knowledge from the pundits rather than the actual reason…

    Newcastle v City

It’s a penalty. Bad that it was missed in real time, but even worse that VAR thought it wasn’t worthy of Atkinson being sent to the monitor. PS. We’re told time and time again that this isn’t a fans forum. What a ridiculous thread title.

Does anybody else love the (sometimes) thrill?

Well done on how you handled the situation 'live', but you MUST submit those cards. It is your responsibility to deal with misconduct at the time (which you did) and then submit that to the FA so that the appropriate sanctions can be applied. What happens when a newly qualified referee turns up...

    Stay safe everyone.

If we used the "farcical" reasoning I'd be abandoning 50% of my games...

    Boot and jewellery check

Seems to be one of the very few things that hasn't come back (yet) post-COVID in my leagues. I don't do a formal check as such at the moment, but will do a visual check when speaking to the coach/manager pre-game and ask players to ensure any jewellery is removed pre-KO. Think I've had one...

    VAR

As a slight aside, the Cresswell incident has brought one of my pet peeves back into play. Jamie Redknapp was insistent that it was a red because Cresswell was "reckless", something which Klopp then said in his post match presser. Obviously I don't expect the average fan to use the right...

    VAR

No issues with the goal. Think Allison just has to be stronger! The Cresswell challenge should be a red. Don’t think for a second that it’s deliberate, but he’s completely out of control. Not sure what Stuart Attwell was looking at!

    Manchester derby

Totally needless challenge with the ball and game long gone. He’ll never change!

At what age group should you introduce cards

Cards for youth players is a question that comes up regularly and that generally causes a lot of debate (which I won't kick off again), but in your two scenarios above: - Player entering the FOP without permission - no way I'd be cautioning for it at that age. As @Anubis says above, it poses no...

    Leicester v Arsenal

I’m Colin Bell level 3, so opposite you. Seen a replay now and it’s actually more central than I thought it was. Not 100% convinced, but can see why he gave it (and certainly not a C&O error for VAR to step in)

    Leicester v Arsenal

But refs clearly do hate City! :hmmm: I’m kidding, of course. Haven’t yet seen a replay of the Laporte red, but it felt wrong in the ground. I was sat adjacent to it and it looked as though there was cover that could’ve got back. I also think it was too far out to constitute a true OGSO, even...

    Brighton v Man City

What other explanation is there? I think he's dropped a bit of a clanger and for whatever reason VAR hasn't bailed him out.

    Man U Vs Liverpool

A stunning amount of anti-bald rhetoric here! On a serious note, I think the tendency to go yellow is a common theme across the current PL referees. VAR is bailing them out on most occasions, but it's worrying that there seems to be an inclination to always go yellow (even when red is the...

    Man U Vs Liverpool

Cowardly tackle from Pogba that gets worse on every viewing. Good use of VAR to reach the right decision but Taylor really should be spotting that in real time. On the Ronaldo one, I think he was very, very lucky. Whistle has gone and he’s lost his head.

    Brighton v Man City

No complaints with the penalty award itself after a clumsy challenge from Ederson, but slightly baffled how this offside wasn’t given in the build up. For those who weren’t watching, it was probably around 10 passes back in the build up.
