Junior/Youth "You must've taken a big bribe, ref"

By all involved. I was explicitly told the first time I refereed at this particular academy that cards were not to be given and to deal with discipline issues through the coaches. This is apparently common practice and there are many referees I know who've been told the same thing at numerous...

Junior/Youth "You must've taken a big bribe, ref"

This comment came after a winning goal scored from a tight offside decision in my U12 Academy game yesterday (I think it was offside, but with no ARs/CARs and an obstructed view I just couldn't give it). With the obvious issue of cards being actively discouraged in academy games, I explained to...

    Carabao Cup Final 2021

Think Tierney has reffed this very, very poorly. A very tentative, uncertain performance. His failure to caution Reguillon for a similar challenge meant he couldn’t caution Laporte (though there’s no way Laporte would be off as he wouldn’t have made that second challenge on a yellow). The Dias...

    Breakaway European League.

City fan who’s been going to games for most of my life. This is the first time I’ve ever been ashamed of my club. Terrible idea fed by disgusting greed and a kick in the teeth of fans everywhere.

Most cards you’ve shown in a single match?

Or maybe, in an unexpected plot twist, you've been "last week's ref" all along ;)

    WBA vs Southampton

I think this is possibly the most baffling decision I've seen to date. It's very clear to the naked eye that Diagne is onside, yet the refs have seemingly become so reliant on the tech that they won't (or can't) overrule the on field AR.

    Junior/Youth One of "those" games

The more I think about this the more it doesn't sit right. At the very least I think it's worth a conversation with my refs sec and the age rep for the league, so will pick that one up.

Most cards you’ve shown in a single match?

5Y and 5R followed by an abandonment in an U18 game. Pretty horrendous game with a few yellows before a mass confrontation led to 5 reds (3 for throwing punches and a further 2 for OFFINABUS).

    Junior/Youth One of "those" games

Thank you all for the input, I really appreciate it. The more I think about it, the more it feels like the game was going to go that way regardless of what I said or did. Back out there under the lights tonight, so a good chance to put it out of my mind! Thanks, Santa. I did consider...

    Junior/Youth One of "those" games

Just my third game back and already had "one of those games". U14 youth match (red v yellow) on Saturday morning ended with three yellows, two sin bins and two reds. Relatively easy first half aside from an early penalty to yellow after a clumsy challenge from the defender (no real complaints)...

    Man City v BVB

I think that would be moving into dangerous territory personally - the whistle was blown whilst Bellingham was around 10 yards out and, as we've seen on many occasions, there is no guarantee that he'd have scored from that position. VAR cannot start giving goals that haven't actually been...

    Man City v BVB

https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/manchester-city/erling-haaland-autograph-referee-dortmund-b1827624.html Thoughts on this? I'm sure this happens behind the scenes sometimes, but in the tunnel in clear view of the cameras and opposing players? Not a good look.

    Man City v BVB

The ref is, as they say in the business, having one. Not complaining too much because of the luck we’ve had in recent years, but it’s not a penalty on Rodri (yellow for dissent for Can maybe?) and not a foul on Ederson.

Ex pro players in your league.

On the same note I've reffed Scholes snr in a couple of charity games.

    Mass Con Approach

    A kerfuffle?

Kane "cute". One word for it.

I personally can't see how this is a penalty. For me Kane overruns the ball and then throws himself into Cash to initiate the contact - clear simulation.

    Grass Roots Season Curtailment (?)

Just had an academy line come through for tomorrow! First game since mid-December :) Fixtures have also gone up from Easter weekend for my grassroots league, so all looking very positive!

    Everton v Man City

Maybe he's realised that with our penalty record he's better off staying on his feet and trying to score.... :hmmm:

    Rangers v Slavia Prague

Looks like a 50/50 challenge to me! Play on... ;)

    Had a rubbish one today

Very good advice @socal lurker. Lowering your foul bar can also apply to advantages. A good way to bring the temperature down is to blow for everything for a short period and "kill the game" - make sure free kicks are from the right blade of grass, stop playing advantage (unless there is an...
