I think I'm right to say that for most red card offences - i.e. where the player would get a standard 1 or 2 or 3 game ban - that if sent of in a friendly game - they are then suspended only for friendly games
PS @Charlie Jones - is this the game we were talking about !?
I think we are guessing a bit as to what the Offending player is doing ... the opposition player is getting closer ... he looks at the opposition player ... does the Offending player:
step away from the ball to commit the offence, or
whilst dribbling (in possession) of the ball downstairs with...
@HertsFinest - crack on mate - don't let the buggers get you down - give them your best game you can ... never a good thing to be assaulted - BUT - if it happens and you can come through it - it can only make you stronger
[ I think you can type in / search for individual club & player names on...
Hey @ausref - no fair - make it easy for me please ;)
From the OP I'd be thinking Violent Conduct ... doesn't sound like the offending player is challenging for the ball (Serious Foul Play)
It looked as you called it @black_dog - attacker just gets into that space first and is then shoved over by the defender - probably given anywhere else on the pitch and not one bats an eyelid ... reactions tell a totally different story though - from both sides !
I see the vote is now:
Yes = 24
No = 0
I planned for drinks breaks pre-match - everyone wanted it - so we did it - twice ... the game was on a 3G pitch - anyone with a scientific bent able to confirm that 3G pitches radiate more heat than grass pitches !?!?
@SM - not really fussed whether it was on or off side in this one (although agree he was offside) … can a player be offside if they are level with an defender's (outstretched) arm ..?
Law 11 is very clear that an ATTACKING player's arm cannot be offside
Today at half-time in the Manchester United v Newcastle game I'm sure I heard Howard Webb (in the TV truck) refer to the DEFENDING player's arm as something that cannot play an attacking player onside
Have I ..:
heard it...
@Charlie Jones and I were at the (fortnightly) Barking & Dagenham (East London) Referee Society last night
We had a great presentation & discussion from an active Football League AR using the PGMOL videos wrt the 'new' offside
We had a few new faces which was great - remember that the first...
I used to wear glasses - never had a problem with players ... probably get more comments about my eye sight now with players suggesting I get down to Spec Savers ..!
I only eventually switched to contacts after a very rainy game and struggled to see through the rain on my specs if I couldn't...
Hi Russ
Welcome to the site
We are a little bit bitey - but like an excited puppy with no teeth - no harm done ;)
@Ross - surely the greatest county in the land (Essex) now has the greatest number of Ref Chat members !?!?
Thanks Charlie - don't be too distracted by my or any other referee's levels - I know some fantastic L7s who just didn't want to go through the promotion process ... your approach is good - just needs rolling out in your games - which includes keeping track of which player has committed how many...
@Charlie Jones
I really like your 1-4 ... but ... would you not re-set the count after the booking ..?
It reads that you're going to issue a caution for a player's first careless foul after the booking ...
I'd be looking to repeat the 1-4 process so the player would get his red card after 8...
It's a good video to learn / improve wrt positioning ...
I've found myself in the ref's position a few times and not seen stuff because of people in the way / having a poor angle
As the midfield player tacks across the pitch, the referee gets out of his way by moving backwards towards the...
Great video - shows the benefit of having extra officials behind the goal with the referee's view obstructed by a defender !!
Does look like he clips his own heels rather than dives ... looks like he has the opportunity to score (before the GK jumps on the ball) so no reason to purposely fall...
