Understand your point. You’re never too overqualified to referee a lower level though. I know for a fact if the County FA need me to do a Sunday league cup fixture I’ll be getting appointed to that L4 or not! Basically, because one might not want to commit to travelling and the time etc you...

Very useful information from everyone thank you. I think in summary it is definitely something that I know I will enjoy and will seriously consider in the future. I do think it is a shame you can’t progress through the levels no matter what level you referee at but I understand why.

Yes Ref took home 60 odd plus expenses so probably more worth it, this is why it makes it a difficult decision. Tempted to go for it and see what happens.

I am in the South East. My concern is.. County Prem game.. £45 all in. Leave house at 12:30 for a 2 kick off, back by half 5. Yesterday, I was AR for a Step 5 game. Left house at 12 back at 7, 33 miles - took home £48. Cannot justify this to the Mrs!

Our local Senior AO has literally just sent out a message saying please do NOT open dates with more than one league, he is obviously experiencing this himself. Again, what a strange system where an experienced referee could be without a fixture on a Saturday just because they have to wait...

Fully understand and appreciate that thank you. So let’s say for the month I leave all my Saturday’s open and only get one appointment. I can’t then take some games to fill those Saturday’s up, I have to wait with them open to see if I get appointed and if I don’t then I just have a free...

    Criteria once Promoted

Yeh. It’s a catch 22 for me really, I really want to go for promotion to 4 but I really enjoy refereeing at County Level. It’s challenging enough, a good match day experience and I get a game every single week without fail. Why would I want to go through promotion to 4 to potentially get one...

    Criteria once Promoted

Cool thanks. I am up for the challenge and the commitment and am not looking to do as little as possible whilst at Level 4, o fully understand that it is a commitment and this is what I am trying to weigh up. I currently do very few midweek but I do still get in 25-30 games a season at county...

Thank you. So let’s say, I only referee 15 games in the season and close all midweek games, I stand a risk of being demoted back to 5?

    Criteria once Promoted

Hi all I know there has been multiple posts regarding the criteria for promotion etc.. What I am asking here, in order to decide if I can commit to the next level is, What is the Criteria when you reach level 4 in order to remain at level 4? I currently referee mainly at County Level, with...

RKC v PEC offside from corner

Appreciate this isn’t the case here as they have comms, however.. applying this to the majority of forum users. Let’s say you are a less experienced AR L5/6 at a step 5 game and the referee and other AR make this call. At what point would you (standing on the touchline on the half way line...

    Brighton vs Southampton

there is a clear action to play the ball in the flick. Did it interfere with the goalkeeper? I think this is subjective. The goalkeeper does move both feet slightly as the attempted flick happens and therefore is technically repositioned and probably wouldn’t have been if that attempted flick...

Awful, sorry to hear. Hope your recover is speedy. I have bought some insoles and they have worked wonders.

    Taking a break

Give yourself more breaks. I am an Assistant Headteacher and I referee at the weekend but I only do Saturdays. Rarely will I do Sundays and rarely will I do weekdays. However, this week I am doing Saturday, Sunday and Tuesday, due to county appointments! If I have something on or a busy week...

    Net interfering with GK

Yes I noticed this bit and do agree. I just wonder that it doesn’t soecifically say what to do if this is not the case but I assume based on a safety issue as with any safety issue play would be stopped and re-started with a dropped ball.

    Interesting!

    Net interfering with GK

What would people do here if they rebound goes in? Award goal? Cant see anything in the laws that specifies this situation apart from the goal needs to be secure and not interfere with the goalkeeper.
