    8 second law example

I've said it a number of times, but the simplest route is that the count will start when the 3 criteria of goalkeeper having control is met, and all opposition players are outside the area That then puts ownness on the opposition as well- 'number 9, my count doesn't start until you leave the...

    EFL OFFINABUS

Which is not what happened in the OP. Dissent and/or OFFINABUS was quite clearly ignored. But Russell and others have stated that the higher echelons are basically told to ignore this, in fear of upsetting people

    Wall or a fence?

Will be interesting to see if this happens. The problem for defending teams if they do this is that for them to have 3 walls, they need minimum of 9 players. This will the free up every other attacker

Sorry, I forgot we aren’t allowed to disagree with you on here. Rustys way or the highway

    EFL OFFINABUS

So referee courses are guiding referees to ignore dissent and/or abuse?

    8 second law example

Said this is how they need to manage this is #41. All for it as long as it’s consistent. In the long run, add to law that opposition players need to be outside the PA. Clears all of this up

    Wall or a fence?

    EFL OFFINABUS

Fans will moan is their player is sent off. Regardless of whether it is obvious or not. As a fan, I was referees to uphold the law and do their job. Not pander to what they think others may want. Do you have this guidance in writing, or are you basing this on what you believe to be guidance...

    8 second law example

This site is the closest I get to social media. You then have the fact that Facebook is dying out anyway, due to other social media sites I did a quick google search for the guidance, and nothing.

    EFL OFFINABUS

Hmmmm, would you honestly say that the paying public get what they want from the officials? I’ve never seen guidance from anyone to say you should ignore dissent abuse; is there?

    Working with other match officials

Turn up, listen to the pre-match, follow the pre-match. As long as what they’re doing or saying isn’t wrong in law, you’re there not assist not insist. We’ve all been out with such officials and it can be particularly challenging if you get put on dugouts, but it is what it is.

So then you need to award an IDFK, not delay the count if they have prevented the release. I have not specifically seen the guidance, as I mentioned earlier, they don’t make the guidance particularly easily accessible to people who aren’t actively refereeing (including fans and this is a major...

    8 second law example

Yes, based on the 3 criteria specified in the laws. All 3 were met almost as soon as the goalkeeper got the call. Nowhere does it mention waiting for players nearby to leave. This is guidance, not law.

    8 second law example

Read the thread (and previous). Law has a specific definition of when the goalkeeper has control. That is in black and white. The law and guidance around the 8 seconds then completely contradicts this. This is the issue

    8 second law example

Common sense is all well and good, but it leads to inconsistencies and where do you stop? We see offside given for 0.5mm offside. In reality, has that made a difference? No. Should we then use common sense and allow any disallowed goals for this?

    8 second law example

My point is, we’re now refereeing to guidance rather than law. If we’re going to go off that, what’s the point in bothering with law? @JamesL said the referee was correct to start the count when he did. According to the section of law around the goalkeeper having control, no he wasn’t. But...

    8 second law example

And herein lies the problem. They release a law. Then individual associations (national rather than county) decide on how to apply it, thus leading to confusion and inconsistencies. I completely agree with the count not starting until people have stopped being near the goalkeeper. If it was...

    Observation

Because referees need to be able to gage what is a good, bad and middle ground mark. Never mind promotion, they need them to also stop being reclassified.

    EFL OFFINABUS

If a referee randomly brandished a card to a player when no challenge has occurred, people are going to know it was dissent or OFFINABUS. Yep, I spent time at L3. Yep, players swore in my game. Was there a limit? Of course where was. After all, it’s not necessarily what was said, it’s how it...
