Players are under immense pressure, but they’re criticised. No reason referees can’t be. Yes players are very quick, so it can be harder to judge incidents. But this is why these referees are said to be the best of the best. Otherwise, what makes them stand out from those lower down the pyramid?

2 seasons ago I’d say he was our best official at that point. Probably should have got the FA Cup Final that year. But other than that, can’t say I’m ever convinced by him.

I’m not sure frustrating both sides can be classed as playing his part. I’m not sure I’ve seen a referee give so many soft fouls in a defensive area in the last few years. Especially after we were told they’d try and clamp down on this.

Yes, and him doing it so often frustrates everyone. Warn them once. If they do something afterwards, give the fk or pk.

I’ve never ever seen them do it anywhere as near as much as Hooper did tonight. There’s no benefit, only frustration for people as it delays the restart. People want the game flowing

I’m not convinced that they are given guidance to delay restarts over and over to warn players over the same stuff. And if it is, it’s extremely poor guidance. Don’t agree on the fouls. And I don’t think top flight officials should be missing SFP like that. We literally had this conversation...

He was extremely inconsistent with his foul recognition. The constant delays at corners for him to earn players just started to frustrate everyone. Give them a warning, then take action. Don’t warn them over and over.

Liverpool weren’t very good by any stretch and were very lucky. But thought Hooper was poor tonight. Foul recognition all over the show. Missed the SFP. Lost count of how many times he delayed a corner being taken to talk to people.

Top flight officials should be seeing such things. Saying it happened too quickly is a kop out. It was hardly on his blindside Trippier has been a lucky boy to not yet be booked

Well it’s championship, so there’s no VAR. But I imagine there’s a good chance that’s how the discussion in comms went
