    The end of the road?

It’s worth saying that refereeing will always wait for you. The end of it for a few years isn’t the end of it forever.

    Junior/Youth last minute 13-0 dogso

For what it'd worth Gabriel, you become less of a slave to the book as you get more experience. I sympathise with your approach, coming off the course, gaining experience and being enthusiastic about progression, so you do teams for offences they commit. That's fair. As you get older (and...

Open Age Tolerance for showing cards, first game as a trainee ref

Did people from both teams say it was soft, or just the team of the player you cautioned? From what you describve, its hard to tell - you had to be there to know! However, catching the upper leg, from behind can often bring you into considering a redc card. What was the oppositions reaction...

Open Age Tolerance for showing cards, first game as a trainee ref

If you show the card, it goes ‘through’, don’t worry about what the manager is saying.

    The FA Refereeing Course

The course is in my opinion, completely made for someone entering with a playing baxkground. You're meant to know the fundamentals of football, and the course takes you to thinking like a referee instead of a player. Coming from a non-playing background onto the course would be very bewildering...

    Open Age First OA Game

To join the fun, I got pulled for this. After giving a big decision, or waiting for a goal kick to be taken, I’d just stare at my watch. Really reduced my presence on FoP

    Junior/Youth last minute 13-0 dogso

Obviously, you’re completely correct in what you’ve done. However, I would absolutely have no issues with someone cautioning here, given the circumstance

    Level 4 - What Happens?

It's quite simple to me, L4 is worth it if you want it to be. Your outlook is what makes or breaks it.

    U14 False Name

My interpretation is that he’s talking about OFFINABUS (F Off) !

    U14 False Name

My apologies, I read it as ‘what is it’, which I attempted to answer first line. I think I’ve had ~6 S6 dismissals in the last 2 seasons. 2 for homophobic/racist language, 2 for words along the lines of ‘****ing c*nt’, 2 for death threats. F Off is never crossing my OFFINABUS threshold. The...

    U14 False Name

Plain stupid to start with, but it’s dissent. I just don’t find myself offended by it, I’m not sure if it’s through exposure to language or whatnot, but then again, I steer well clear of youth football (besides U18) now so maybe I’ve lost perspective of how striking that would be from an...

    Grabbing Knackers

Yeah was only messing. The ER would take it up to the ban length after a disciplinary process. Actually makes no grand difference in terms of sanction or anything. Without getting into specifics of sack grabbing, I'd guess if its done with intensity or any intent to cause any reasonable harm...

    Grabbing Knackers

A player saying they're going to knock my head in or words to that effect are definitely intending emotional distress, but as James pointed out, they're going for OFFINABUS. For reference, VC gets the player banned one game longer minimum ;) - But seriously, for me it's a violent act, but I...

    U14 False Name

A 14 year old telling me to F Off probably isn't getting a red from me - I just don't find it offensive. However, they're at minimum going for 10, and there's situations where they'll be saying bye bye for the full game

    U14 False Name

If you ask me, correct course of action. His coach was apologetic and clearly helpful following the incident, so I'd personally be having the mutual respect to not escalate the report, as you've received the correct name at the end of the day. However, you wouldn't be incorrect to submit a...

    Level 4 - What Happens?

Yeah - plenty of refs spending their seasons with a range of Step 7-6 games up here in the NW from what I've been told. It's a battle, but there is a massive number of L4s here

    Spectators on for a fight

Fair play! I’d be severely unhappy if I got marked down by an observer for it on a Sunday morning. That being said, I refuse to be observed on a Sunday

    Super Sunday yellow cards

I don't really agree with this, just think he's becoming more himself when refereeing, and less the persona that is required. If you think back to last seasons Europa final, I think he was spectacular, and not at all 'animated' etc.

    Sin Bin Management

I don’t mind the involving the away skipper after warning a home player/skip. Normally I’ll just say something like “you’ll be battling this half, keep your lads tidy for me and work with me”.
