Reffing a match with a mic. Hear me during the game.

Nordic people tend to be thoroughly decent people in my experience, the players seem to have a great attitude and the atmosphere seems much more pleasant than what I have seen in the UK.

    not even minimum wage!

Quite a relevant blog post by ex-premiership referee Bobby Madley: https://therefereesword.blogspot.com/2019/10/its-hobby-not-job.html?m=1

    Manager not paying up.

What should the OP have done in the situation above where only part of the fee was offered? Let's face it, he is never seeing the £4 again and although it's not a great deal of money it's more the principle. Would he have been correct in refusing the payment unless it was all present and then...

Applying the laws of the game based on ability/age

I reff'ed a girls youth game yesterday for the first time and noticed that I tried to apply the LOTG based on their ability. It's fair to say that the level of physicality was much lower than I have been used to, the girls weren't flying in to tackles and most of the 50/50's were very fairly...

Seems to be getting worse !!

I'm inexperienced too so I'm not going to patronise you by giving you advice but please don't let them beat you. Your real world experience is so valuable and the fact that many people your age aren't fit enough to be a referee should count for a lot. Keep at it, please.

    I don't think i can do it

You aren't going to be fantastic in every game but you need to take the positives and apply it to your next game. Without being too critical on yourself, highlight a couple of things you could improve on and make the effort to address those too. Remember, there was a time when you couldn't walk...

When to wear different coloured shirt?

Thank you, this is spot on. So my understanding of this is check the league handbook, if nothing is mentioned then any colour is permitted. For certain levels when 3 officials are working together, black or volt is acceptable but everyone must be wearing the same colour.

When to wear different coloured shirt?

I'm in Essex too. Just to confirm you are referring to the "volt" colour? https://referee-equipment.co.uk/product/new-nike-2018-referee-shirt-short-sleeved/ I picked a brand new one off eBay very cheaply. The red one was also a bargain so not worried if I can't use it all the time but it would...

When to wear different coloured shirt?

My wife suggested I bought another ref shirt as it's difficult to wash and dry the shirt on a Saturday if I have another game Sunday. I therefore decided to buy the red/yellow Nike shirts. If you are part of a team of three then everyone should wear the same colour which 99.9% will be black. It...

Views on this, penalty or not

This would be a foul anywhere else on the pitch so by that logic it should be a penalty.

    Wet Sham v United

I was there today and thought the Ogbonna yellow card in the first 20 mins looked bad. From where I sat the Noble yellow looked strong but fair. Interesting to see the replays.

Hoping to do my first AR game soon

Just to confirm, are you referring to being an assistant referee (AR) or open age (OA) i.e. adults?

    El Ghazi Headbutt

I'm surprised he wasn't sent off, he clearly moved his head in to Ming's face. Sets a dangerous precedent if that kind of behavior is not punished even though they were both on the same team.

Just referee'd my first ever game w/ mentor

I found my confidence increased considerably once I started to become more vocal. I.e. you wouldn't blow your whistle for a throw in but you can confidently say "blue ball" or "red touched it last" or "play on, great tackle" etc

    Red card for attacking fan:

I agree, you have summed up my feelings perfectly there.

Throw in - spinning the ball

Does that apply still as it's not mentioned in the IFAB laws of the game?

    Friendly Grealishimulation

Playing devil's advocate here. Can it be considered a dive if Grealish hasn't appealed for anything? He went down in an unusual way but I wonder if he knew the tackle was coming and rode it out as he was confident he could get the pass away? It was a fantastic pass and it looks to me like he...
