    Minutes Silence

Thanks - all went good - not so the game though - 5 yellows. My third game since qualifying. To be honest about 50% of the players behaved like little babies, petulant and arguing for EVERYTHING, at one point around 5 players surrounding me. I wouldn't mind but the level of football is pretty...

    Minutes Silence

Hi Everyone New ref here. I have been asked for a minutes silence today due to bereavement. Don't want to wing it. Sounds silly but how do you do this? after meeting captains and doing the toss,,,or earlier... R

    New Ref? Too old?

Probably better to describe how old you feel? I'm +50 and just started, and fancy myself playing if one of the teams are short of a goalkeeper :) . Only problem for me is I need reading glasses, so I need to write largish in my notebook.

Corrected to L7, thanks ... guess it'll update in a bit

    Game 1

It's a lot easier playing as you're familiar with your teamates, their colours, and you're playing forward in one direction - not switching frequently.

    Game 1

If I'm being super honest, by main problem is speed of thinking of which side to give it to and in which direction to point. If I could nail that then I would be much more confident, and the 'grief/backchat' would be much easier to handle. I watch the action, and see the foul contact first...

    Game 1

(Kref. I'm +50 years old, fresh out of the referee training factory, in the middle of doing my 5 games to 'finish' the course. So I made a wild guess that during the 5 game period I'm not quite a 'proper' level 7. Hope that makes sense. I've got no complaints at my 'placement', just it's...

Thanks. I'm going to take away the idea of stopping a bit to make a deal of the first bad tackle...

    Game 1

Thanks. It was the constant trivial moaning that occupied me too much.... I think as I get more certain in decisions I'll feel less bothered. Even then the constant "Ref!" calls from all directions needs to stop somehow.... either I ignore calls that might be important (like injury or subs) or...

    Game 1

Thanks, you're right of course. I think with this level where there's a lot of 'kicking lumps out of each other' I probably need to be a bit proactively whistle happy for the first 20 minutes. I wasn't nervous about giving cards, I just wasn't sure about what's expected at this level - I know...

    Game 1

Thanks. Looking back I could have issued 3 -4 yellows before half time easily.

    Game 1

Thank you. I actually think I've got to 'recalibrate' what I think is a fair challenge, as I'm letting too much go. Problem is it's very easy to start whistling for everything when you've got clumsy players on a poor pitch...

    Game 1

First game as ref today. Not sure if I'm allowed to name the league? Lower level mens football on poorish pitch. I wasn't quite prepared for the high level of moaning and wingeing and eventually backchat. I ended up giving a yellow for dissent, stopping the game to talk to both captains...

Whitehawk v Three Bridges (step 4)

Yes, he did keep calm really well. I'm still learning the basics; the ARs and Ref as a team seemed good at sorting out the sanctions for the melee. I guess I would expect more collaboration with the AR for things like the 2-3 possible penalties - given that seeing things from different angles...
