    Eventful end to the match!

Yeah I suppose you’re right to a degree. I’m fairly relaxed on the pitch, I like to use the stepped approach with dissent (unless it’s way over the line) and this approach has worked in previous games, vast majority of players i referee get the message after a final warning. This guy had ample...

    Eventful end to the match!

Got to be honest big cat I don’t agree i should’ve accepted him escalating the level of dissent following the first C2, and deciding to let it go. When I issue a C2 the message I’m trying to get out is that I’m not accepting it anymore, so it stops now or you’re off! By ignoring the not so...

    Eventful end to the match!

I wish I’d recalled that at the time as I could’ve sold it no problem, however he was on his side with his left arm in front of his chest when it hit him, on that arm, so think the red was correct. Saying that it was never a deliberate attempt to handle it to stop a goal, so the red still seems...

    Eventful end to the match!

Cheers, as I said the clubs don’t seem to have a clue about how they’re supposed to work, so nobody picked up on the error thankfully.

    Eventful end to the match!

Yesterday’s match was going quite smoothly until around the 77th minute, after which I encountered a couple of firsts. Away side were 2-0 up after an hour against the run of play. Match control was spot on, player behaviour was good, challenges were fair etc. Offside calls are all on me for...

    Talking to managers about parents

Problem is, the parents have to bring them and take them home so the chances are they’re going to wait around for the match. I can’t imagine many not trying to get pitchside to watch...especially if there’s nobody around to tell them to scram. Not really your problem of course but youth...

    Talking to managers about parents

At times the atmosphere at Junior football matches are absolute poison because of the attitude of parents and indeed some coaches. I’m all for banning parents completely. I’d take a difficult OA game any day over a run of the mill junior match.

    WSL again

I’ve never seen the value in ‘holidays’ as a punishment...which is exactly what they are. All for a reprimand by way of ‘explain yourself’ following a bad error but let’s be honest, the team will be mortified by this whatever the reason for missing the two yellows was. It’s safe to say if...

    Merseyside derby

Good riddance! A super league would be great for the TV companies and corporate crowd but the novelty would quickly erode for fans, not that many of the local based support would be behind it IMO...they’d [the clubs] be crawling back within 5 years.

I’m too lenient and it backfired today

    Good analogy.

    Merseyside derby

I can’t recall the incident you’re referring to but I doubt it got the level of coverage the Pickford challenge has and will. Liverpool demanding explanations will force the authorities into action IMO.

    Merseyside derby

I’ve been anticipating this following the media reaction and indeed LFC’s. I think they [the PL/FA] will retrospectively ban him, I just worry the ban will exceed 3 matches.

I’m too lenient and it backfired today

As bad as those experiences are, you’ll be a better referee for it. Your final paragraph outlines what you would’ve done differently, apply those lessons to future games and make it easier for yourself. I found I was reluctant to card players early in, I don’t even know why, but you don’t do...

    Drop Balls

The ball should be dropped to the side that was in possession, in the same position on the field when you blew for the head injury IF the ball was in the penalty area when you blew, regardless of who was in possession, the ball is dropped to the GK. It’s not on the referee to tell anyone to...

    Merseyside derby

I’m working on the assumption they’ve done that to establish the position of the yellow line.

Runs straight from his shoulder. Looks a good call in the end.

    Merseyside derby

I’m as biased as they come and it was a clear red and nowhere near offside. Strange officiating. Not complaining!!

    Senior AR

You’re never going to win- by engaging with them. You back the refs decision and ‘you’re just saying that’, you don’t, by sitting on the fence and you’re ‘bottling it’. You throw the ref under the bus completely and you can guarantee that’ll be the next thing they start shouting at the ref the...

    Advantage law- SPA

Frankly, I’m surprised it isn’t implemented across the board. Out of curiosity, what is the test for 5-4?

    Making decisions as an AR

    That’s absolutely ridiculous behaviour.
