    Newcastle Penalty

It does look like the Ref went to speak to someone as Ritchie was protesting. Maybe he told the ref he'd be the taker?

    Newcastle Penalty

Dear oh dear. How does that happen? no one seems to know.

    It could be worse ...

Well said Yampy. However, it does seem that she is being punished twice for the same infringement. If the rules say you can go back and retrospectively add two penalty shots to your score, you surely should then have the opportunity to re-submit a new scorecard with the correct score? I know the...

    Sané vs. Huddersfield

I couldn't believe he got away with it when I saw it. It wasn't replayed on the channel I was watching. But it doesn't help any of us when every Sunday league player sees that and copies it. What happened to the 'crackdown on dissent' we heard so much about at the start of the season?

first game reffing 15yr old ref

Hi Joel, there's a wealth of information on this site across all matters so read as mush as you can and absorb a much as you can. Are your assigned matches also underage fixtures? if so, the refereeing is as much about managing two groups of children as it is about enforcing the laws of the...

    Spurs v Gent

I loved this line from The Guardian on the Alli incident: Mauricio Pochettino has offered medical science £25m for a new brain for Dele Alli.

    Clattenburg to quit FA referees?

Best of luck to him. Probably on 2-3 times his after tax salary as PL ref and dealing with half the s*** he used to. Having watched some of the Saudi teams in Asian Champions League matches there are some big rivalries in Saudi Arabia and they do take it seriously. Not easing into retirement...

    Alonso's Arm vs Bellerin's head

It looked to be no foul in real time when I watched the match. Just two players going for the same ball but Bellerin getting there later than Alonso and unfortunately injuring himself due to his committment to defending (no comment on some of the other Arsenal defenders commitment on the day)...

Fully over the line or not? Can you be sure?

I've seen worse with a club appointed ref. Gave a goal from a shot off the crossbar that bounced a yard outside the line. The 'ref' was 30 yards away from it but kindly gave the benefit of the doubt to his home team.

Tough offside decision - goal? Hyundai A-League

There does seem to be something wrong with the law when a defender is better off letting the ball run through his legs to let an attacker (in an offside position) play it. A good video on how to deal with players. I like how Chris Beath sends them all away to speak with the AR, then sends Cahill...

Offside yes/no rebound off a defender

I'd have to say no, not playing the ball. In this case the block is the equivalent of a keeper making a save and the rebound falls to an offiside attacking player. For me, 'playing the ball' means trying to kick or head it away with some intention.

    Costa (Liverpool vs Chelsea 31/1/17)

Just watched the replay and the Milner/Moses incident was as much a penalty as Costa's. Although the contact in both is minimal and I would've been happy if neither of them were given. Milner seemed to slip rather than be pushed over, while Costa's 'trip' starts before he is even touched.

Open Age Horrendous first match today - need some game management advice

Wow, what an experience to have first game back! And TBH, it was totally not what I'd expect from a Singaporean league. I guess there are idiots everywhere. Well done for getting out again and using the advice. All the advice here is very useful and it sounds like you've taken it and used it...

    Penalty kick

I have to agree with those that say any encroachment is putting the penalty taker off in some way. you can see a keeper moving closer out of the corner of your eye as you take a penalty and this may cause you to hit just a fraction wider. Also, if each and every time we allow a keeper to take a...

    Horrible Little B*stards

That is incredible. I was reading our association's guidelines for next year regarding "threatening or intimidating language or conduct toward a match official". Anyone care to guess how many matches that suspension is? 17 One automatic for the red and 16 extra for the seriousness of the...

    At least he admitted it.........

Why was he so worried about you sending the booking in? Most leagues allow 5 before a suspension don't they? He's a long way off that

    Cold/Numb Hands...

Does wearing more or better undergarments help? I've always gone with the theory that if your core is warm, then the extremities will also stay warm (warm blood rushing around the body). Personally I like the merino ones and with enough layers it keeps everything out. And yes, it does get cold...

    Educating the players

I saw one last season where a ref forgot or neglected to tell everyone it was an IDFK and didn't put his hand up. The shot goes straight into the top corner from the free kick. He blows and disallows it saying they should've known it was indirect (the foul was also for dangerous play with no...

    KO retake.

Take the kick off again was correct. On another note, every kid seems to think play re-starts with the whistle and not when the ball is kicked and moves. I must've seen this 20 times last year. Most of the time, refereeing children's games is about teaching the laws rather than enforcing them.
