When can you step up to 11v11 ?

Ironically I was head of a famous pro clubs Girl's Academy for a couple of years during my coaching days but as a ref I never stepped in. I do ref Girl's now and again too, just this last weekend I did. In fact I am looking to put my name on the local girl's league for a Sunday morning. I have...

New referee first game witnout mentor tips

I didn't say 'Can't' to other areas of the country,I am genuinely glad there are areas where you can, but in my area I don't think it will be on the agenda any time soon.

First Year L4 - Second Observation

Putting my coaching hat on for a second. Wide areas in pro football are usually 1 v 1 or even overload situations for the attacking team therefore a potential advantage,at those levels. Back to grassroots though, and these situations are far more benificial giving the free kicks. As has been well...

When can you step up to 11v11 ?

The only men's game I ever refereed was a staff game at a famous club's Academy. I have refereed older Youths at 18/19 in College games too. There is no OA men's league on a Sunday round here unfortunately. Saturday's are for the kids games for me. Under 13s and up play 11 v 11 so you should...

    What do I do pre-match?

If heading was outlawed in mini soccer (some already do this) then I could see significantly less danger to others anyhow. As for older children,it would appear that most wearers deal with their problem accordingly from my experience. Sometimes the footballers ad campaigns can be a big...

New referee first game witnout mentor tips

The mention of the brawl was to counter your point about allowing club ARs to give biased decisions and the kind of incidents that are not uncommon in my area at the possible outcome of such decisions. Allowing their influence on offsides would result in even more incidents over a 'more serious'...

    New Old Ref

Sorry,I thought you were talking to me. I assume the OldNavyRef poster must be based elsewhere or attended the course over 4 years ago before the change if in England.

New referee first game witnout mentor tips

There is absolutely no training for matchday ARs. Its just either the coach or one of the parents. This why they do ins and outs only. It must be nice to have trustworthy parents or coaches but out on a field in the middle of nowhere with no friends around and hoping to avoid as much...

You are not in England? I am in England, the North West.

    New Old Ref

Our Assessor poster here said that the Duke of E courses do not count any more and they still have to pay the various fees to attend,or their parents/guardians do.

    BACS Bank Payments

At my grassroots level its cash and before the game. Sometimes immediately after too. I wont wait more than an hour or two to remind them. Bank payments usually show immediately now, even on weekends.

I can't imagine allowing no input to an offside decision even with ARs. The acronym would help both given how many ARs in most recreational games would signal before the offending player touches the ball, other than maybe to avoid a GK and striker collision. You'd need some input at least,I'd...

My recent course taught me that the new acronym is PIG. Plays the Ball. Interfers with an opponent. Gains an Advantage.

    “He can’t say leave it!”

A stern word is usually all I've ever had to use in these situations and they havent happened again.

    “He can’t say leave it!”

'Keeper' is the name there though. All GKs are named Keeper.

    How to move into OA?

A two whistle game? What's that?

I'd rather not have to bother with them at all,to be honest. 'Ins and outs please gents/ladies and I will do the offsides' is a familiar statement I will make. It would be nice to have that much trust in club officials though.

Do you think they are knowledgeable enough considering a lot of refs still get confused by the tweaking and interpretations in recent times?

I'm in Cheshire/Merseyside and here its the sole duty of the referee as there is the chance of bias or at least the suggestion of it.

Yes it does seem like a 'the wheat and the chaff will separate naturally in due course' kind of attitude.
