    Scott Arfield Red Card

One of the commentators was suggesting it should have been yellow because there wasn’t excessive force. They must think sliding feet first in to a keeper’s head is perfectly normal!

    Nightmare game

Sounds like a tough one with aggressive managers. Sending them if they’re being abusive is spot on. Perhaps you could have managed the 2 cautions earlier on with a chat? At that age they may be unaware of that part of the law. Having said that, they do need to learn. That’s not a criticism at...

    First Adult League Game

Quoted wrong post lol. I meant just pointing wrong way for a free kick.

    First Adult League Game

Think I’ve done it twice. Quickly realised, corrected and apologised. Had a little laugh with the players about it and move on. It’s very easily done.

    Open Age Pre-match routine

Agree again. I think the most I’ve given out is 5 in one match; but only because nothing else merited a caution, in my opinion.

    Open Age Pre-match routine

Totally agree with you. The more I ref, the more cards I’m giving. It’s also directly proportionate to the age groups. I tend to do U18/U17 and adults now. Had my first delaying restart the other day. Player ran 15/20 yards to prevent a quick free kick and then was surprised to get a yellow...

Personally, I think cards are excellent control tools. One of the only things we have in fact.

    Open Age Pre-match routine

When I’m doing youth matches I often get asked if I want to speak to the teams prior to kick off: I never do. I make a point of having a chat with each manager. This gives me chance to be ‘human’ in their eyes. Have a laugh with them. If something needs bringing to their attention then I do it...

    Depressing

I find it unbelievable that a league would not support a ref who is doing his job while letting teams get away with bad behaviour. I’ve not had to report anything yet but I hope I get supported when I do. That’s just crazy. I get offered a lot more games than I can do, so I assume most other...

    Penalty shootout advice

I’ve done a couple of shoot outs. I use my match card at the bottom of the page. Number of play and tick or cross. Really simple and easy to work out the score, who wins etc. With regards to rolling subs: I tell the teams that if it’s looking like pens I expect all subs in jumpers and a bit...

    After-Match Fight

Nothing like what happens to that guy. No one got gunned down or run over by a tractor by a disgruntled sub.

    After-Match Fight

Thanks guys. The ref was on the pitch (very close to it all happening) when it kicked off. Felt sorry for him. The away manager was trying to boss the situation too. Good learning curve for him- utter nonesense for an U12 match to finish like that. @JH i wasn’t being funny or anything mate.

    After-Match Fight

You misunderstand. The fighting was from a game I wasn’t reffing, merely watching before my game.
