A victim of our own success!

No mate I still do youngsters if I can, but our Senior/Junior/Sunday leagues are well stocked. I'd flag on the Hellenic at a push, but I'm 4-5 yards down on where I used to be through age/fitness and I'd be horrified to ruin somebody's season by letting them down, and assessments wise I'm...

    what would you do?

So, to recap: "England expects that every man will do his duty" From the 1805 Referee's Chart and Players guide to the Laws of the Game Bloke called Horace Nelson, top man back in the day I'm told ;)

A victim of our own success!

Wahayyyy! I've got an appointment for next month! With one of the clubs involved in a county cup this weekend and the other team not playing, it's a top of the table 1st v 2nd 6 pointer, no pressure then? The reverse fixture's in 3 weeks time I think. Joking aside, the league is really...

    Southend vs. Oxford

I listened to BBC Radio Oxford's commentary, they too praised the referee's performance, and those 2 broadcasters can be more than a little 'partisan' It came across that Southend were the better team - especially the lad on loan from Norwich, and the referee had a good game.

    First line.

We've had some of our cup-final 'quartets' go out and get to know each other on a local match a few weeks before their final, fees might be an issue but ours have been known to line/4th official free of charge so as to get a taste, or all split the referee's fee 25% just to cover each for...

    Junior/Youth Spectator Problem

I offered this idea to the FA through their then Area Manager Janie Frampton about 10 years ago at a national FA Referee Instructor's seminar Staverton Park in Northamptonshire. So you never know!

    6 second rule

not applied literally by some I agree, your approach sounds perfectly fair and easily understood Richtk, GK's you referee regularly soon get to know where you draw the line

    League Cup Matches

Congratulations to one and all who are being acknowledged and rewarded for their hard work, I hope it encourages all other colleagues to go the extra yard next season! Hullref: I love Semi-Finals, they're (for me anyway) probably more hectic and emotional for clubs and players than the final...

    6 second rule

I think we need to be sensible when deciding where the 5-seconds start from. Bit unfair to include the GK catching, rolling and standing up! Got to be - for me - from when he is fully in control of or clutching the football whilst standing on both feet and no longer being threatened/challenged...

    Dangerous Pitch

Parched earth might offer the danger of wide cracks in the surface that (because they are solid at the edges) if a player's foot/heel got caught or twisted, but the main accepted difference is frozen ground has no give in it where it's full of frozen water, making it like concrete. Hard dry...

    6 second rule

Saw Keith Hackett do it, sure it was Euro 88, from memory it was Italy playing so likely Dino Zoff in first few minutes, both sides got the message as I remember, commentator was a bit bewildered until Keith held 5 spread fingers aloft as a signal, no ambiguity there! Yes I've done it, like...

    Removing shirt

I'd agree SM, that's time wasting for the sake of it. The original post described a player throwing teddy from the pram and having a hissy fit as he grudgingly mooched off. I'd let him go and be done with him, let the club take away his crisps & pop as a punishment lol

    Junior/Youth Spectator Problem

    Junior/Youth Spectator Problem

Good old 'angry parents'! Especially when their little Johnnie gets a clout! We've tried something different here in Oxfordshire for a few seasons in the boys leagues, using a power available to us in Law 5, 'to suspend play'.......not abandon it Problem adult, public pitch, we suspend the...

Open Age First Game, First Red

It's always a good idea to state 'I saw and heard him, number *, say/shout "********" Cuts out any mistaken identity challenge, and puts the offence directly onto the correct player, especially if he was close to other players at the time. Trivial, but it's always done me well. Never repeat...

    Euro 2016

Sounds like a Platini scam to me, trying to favour Les Bleus? Remember a few World Cups ago he said referees weren't showing enough red cards to players and demanded 'Action' Zut Alors!! The next day, Laurent Blanc the French skipper got his marching orders......Classic!

    Open Age "Because he's biased"

Just examples Haywain, he'd only perm maybe 2 from the 4 directed at me in reality. Justylove is right and makes probably the most valid point, it's not just what is said, it's the manner and method in which it is delivered than normally tips the scales, but in your face is not acceptable...

    Offensive, abusive and insulting language

As I said, I would expect to only do this once, this is 'lazy eye' refereeing and repositioning at it's best Haywain, I would truly expect to now catch him, and without being big-headed, I'm not too modest to say I'm known to be pretty good at it, they have to run the risk. If the CAR was now...
