New referee first game witnout mentor tips

You allow club officials to do offside? Wow! I'd never let that happen myself.

    New Old Ref

I passed my ref's exam in the early 2000s and reffed for about 12/13 years at all Youth ages between U8 to U18s then took a few years out. I then returned about 3 seasons ago but wasn't allowed to register on the local league's official ref list so stayed as a club ref with one particular club...

See that's the problem that I have with all this arrogance, level this, level that,I'm better than you because I passed these exams. Exactly the kind of thing that made me have no interest in being anything but a recreational ref. It must be great on that lofty perch of level something or other...

I totally agree with this Chas but the reality is often different.

The apathy I referred to was not yours but directed towards the parents who wont referee. The same apathy that makes them not bothered taking their kids to football and expecting others to instead.

    Law changes

It's just so bizarre. I haven't got my knickers in a twist I just needed to understand something so utterly strange that I couldnt originally get my head around it. No doubt it will change again when some FIFA bigwig needs to act as though he/she is working instead of globetrotting for free meals.

    Law changes

You probably have summed it up better than me! I still dont see how you can commit an offence by NOT committing an offence though. 'It is not an offence to be in an offside position' yet it now is. You now can also commit an offence in a part of the field that its not an offence to commit the...

Cards at U7 and U8 level

I think that they are intrinsically linked. Its this apathy that leads to the difficulty to get 'refs/facilitators/supervisors' at even the very young age groups. Relating to what Chas the Observer/assessor said.

    Law changes

Yes,I understand that is what you all have said. But I find it ridiculous that somebody can be punished for an offence they haven't committed in an area of the pitch that the team of the 'offender' cannot be offside in. This is the confusion.

    Covid

Nobody will last 5 seconds in a nuclear conflict anyhow. Your post really does look at young people in a bad light and does seem to generalise a lot. You mention the Tube so I am guessing you are London/Southern based? Up here in the North there are both good and bad, pretty much the same as...

    Covid

Probably a bit harsh on all under 30s but a lesson in the harmful effects social media can have on a population given some young people's vocal resistance based on uneducated claptrap being given credibility on the internet and in media circles.

    Covid

My point was that many people simply dont know they have it and vaccination is the key.

Cards at U7 and U8 level

I think dealing with younger kids becomes easier when you've been a parent, grandparent too and its the older kids, the teenagers who tend to pee you off more. I get more joy out of seeing the younger kids learn the game but you are correct in inferring that the biggest idiots tend to be involved...

    Covid

Avoiding contact is pretty difficult in a family environment though and unless you live in a mansion or hotel is akin to mixing in changing rooms or ref's rooms. There has to come a time soon when Covid will be treated like the flu with regular jabs, every year is most likely. The key to the...

    Covid

I think a lot of people are simply asymptomatic with covid and this is the real problem. The problem with the disease is that it is affecting some people enough to kill them and some people not at all. As long as you are sensible enough to have all your jabs and follow government guidelines(...

Cards at U7 and U8 level

Please tell this to the people at the game when none of them will do it. Even 'supervise' as has been said. I am not sure you realise the complete lack of willingness to ref, supervise, facilitate or whatever you want to call it with small kids in many areas.

Cards at U7 and U8 level

There are probably a number of reasons for this. I mentioned the discipline side in my other post but you and others also mentioned it being better paid for students than less than minimum wage jobs too. Mini Soccer has the most vibrant leagues and games in large parts of the country so there...

This is correct and probably why referees are appointed to mini soccer games.

Cards at U7 and U8 level

Re the throw in scenarios you mention,I do this myself. I often do mini soccer under 8s through to under 10s and all I ask the thrower is to throw from behind their head. I dont even worry about their feet placement yet. When I pull up their throw and allow them to retake it I just say 'This is...
