Deliberate Play / Deflection / Save

Why was this sub clause originally put in anyway? When the ball leaves the attackers foot and the intended pass is to the player in an offside position what's the inbetween player got to do with it? After all we're told 'was he in an offside position when the ball was kicked?' That's the...

Deliberate Play / Deflection / Save

As it was explained to me one of the considerations is is the player trying to change the course of the ball. So in that case skimming off the head, skimming off your boot wouldn't be 'deliberately played'. And that's fair. No way an attacker should gain an advantage from that situation. Also...

Deliberate Play / Deflection / Save

Type 'deliberately played' into YouTube to see why the law was clarified. So many skimmed off foot and heads that were determined to be 'deliberately played' and then put the player onside it was ridiculous.

Deliberate Play / Deflection / Save

All I know is I'm very happy they've clarified it. So much easier now. Just need to think of it in terms of was it 'deliberately played' or 'played at'. Then you're sweet. There's a world of difference between sticking your leg out and adjusting your body and making a deliberate play at the...

Back pass that wasn't but now is - (to GK)

    And if they appeal?

Back pass that wasn't but now is - (to GK)

There's no mind reading needed. The right fullback decides to switch play by squaring the ball across the penalty spot to the left fullback. You can clearly see what the intent is. The GK has a brain explosion and decides to come off his line and grab it. Now what?

Back pass that wasn't but now is - (to GK)

Fair enough but I'm thinking more that he passes it across the GK so at no stage is it going to the keeper until the keeper decides to run forward and get it. Then what?

Back pass that wasn't but now is - (to GK)

Defender decides to square the ball across the box to another defender. GK, who is in between those 2 decides to run forward a couple of metres and picks up the ball. Is this deemed a back pass as the ball wasn't 'deliberately kicked to the goalkeeper by a team-mate'? (My initial thought is...

Free kick to defenders inside the box - when can you challenge?

Fair enough. In summary once the ball is 'played' (providing the attacker doesn't challenge for the ball before that) it's game on no matter where the attacker(s) are.

Free kick to defenders inside the box - when can you challenge?

** Thanks for that. That was my understanding but where in that excerpt does it say that? ## Wording seem vague unless I'm reading it wrong. The way it's written it's a retake if the ball is placed and then, before the kick is taken, the attacker kicks it. (I mean that's fairly obvious and is...

Free kick to defenders inside the box - when can you challenge?

Started doing more junior games recently and you get all these weird circumstances which never occur in senior football. Ref awards a free kick in the box and the GK quickly places the ball down and passes it to a defender who is standing next to him in the box. There is also an attacker in the...

    Offside IDFK from where?

Player A is in an offside position to start with when ball is played through in front of player A. (Imagine long thorough ball). Player A gets on his skates and is after it. Defender chases Player A. AR doesn't flag because Player A has yet to become 'active'. AR holds flag down and runs down...

    Can somebody explain offside please?

If I'm reading that Dutch link correctly. If a defender leaves the field, accidentally, he's counted as on the line, no YC If a defender leaves the field, on purpose, he's counted as on the line, and he gets a YC. And the case for the attackers? (in simple terms for a gumby like me)

GK collects balls - fouls striker

    Hahaha. So good.

GK collects balls - fouls striker

How is that a FK to the GK if the GK pushed the striker? (In the second example.) What are we pinning on the striker here?

GK collects balls - fouls striker

Just wondering what would happen if the GK picked the ball up from a through ball (and is now standing still) and then because he thought the striker was getting a bit uppity running so close to him leant over and collected him with his shoulder as he passed by. I'm thinking a solid hit not just...

Melbourne vs Western United - pen or not?

My only problem with that is the player that falls over actually gets to the ball first. I can see if white had gotten the ball first and then there was a collision then you might say well bad luck, blue ran into white, keep playing. Tricky one.
