    TOT v LIV

I’m genuinely asking here, as it’s been 21 years since I lived in Europe and regularly took flights out of Frankfurt. Outside of Russia, what is the longest flight within UEFA from London or Manchester? In the US, we obviously have some long flights for match officials. With the PRO/MLS VAR hub...

    TOT v LIV

I'm on board with you that the speed on the Jones challenge isn't going to be enough to go red on that challenge. However, in my opinion (and I'm perfectly good with others disagreeing), I think a lot of other factors that justify endangering the safety of a player are in play here. Straight...

    TOT v LIV

Except that type of challenge really should be SFP. A straight leg with flush contact on the inside of the leg should be a send off, but in our age of “keep it 11 v 11” hasn’t been. Perhaps we are moving back to this type of challenge being properly sanctioned.

Gab Marcotti article on referee shortage

There are some distinctions, but generally I think Marcotti is advocating for stricter punishment for the big items like surrounding the referee and the really egregious behavior like when Klopp went after Taylor’s AR in the Man City-Liverpool game last season. Marcotti says-and I agree with...

Gab Marcotti article on referee shortage

https://www.espn.com/soccer/story/_/id/38452288/european-soccer-elite-referees-premier-league-etc-blame Given that Marcotti was one of the leading voices that basically condoned Gigi Buffon’s abusive behavior toward Michael Oliver in that infamous Real-Juve UCL match several years ago, this...

    Villa Vs Palace

Pundits will forever believe in the myth of “but he got the ball”. They probably also believe in Bigfoot, the Loch Ness Monster, and Santa Claus.

    Match brawl

Let the proper authorities determine if it’s safeguarding or not. Report everything you heard. Don’t add any editorials. If you heard an adult say to a kid “You are a (expletive)”, report it just like that. What you don’t want to foster is any sort of hearsay that might get someone let off the...

    Therapy treatments

To add: here is the full description that I copied and pasted to get around any possible link sharing issues. This was on an old website from a PT location in my old hometown. Improve stamina and agility while reducing injury risk with the help of trained movement specialists Those that run for...

    Therapy treatments

In all seriousness, is there a running mechanics session that would work? Several years ago, some of the physical therapists at a local PT site ran a multi-week session called “Ready 2 Run” or something like that where they worked with a small group on therapy-based mechanics for running. If I...

    Match brawl

Nip this immediately. After the second one, at least approach the touch line and calmly tell the coach that his behavior is out of line. Future instances can then go up the misconduct chain. If you let several of these go, it will funnel to the players and make things tougher.

    Refereeing wearing a cap

As @socal lurker says, all of the local guidance allows black hats. In our high school and college rulebooks, a hat is explicitly listed as an optional part of a referee uniform. For me, I never wear one in the middle. I just feel too hot wearing one. As an assistant, I’ll wear one if I’m...

    Man City vs Fulham

This is why many of us on a US-based forum scratch our heads at some of the stuff Dale Johnson writes. https://www.espn.com/soccer/story/_/id/38297757/the-var-review-havertz-penalty-cancelled-ten-hag-rant-akanji-offside I simply have no idea how someone who claims to understand the law and its...

    Watches

Yeah, it's very expensive. Like I said, watches are one of the very few things on which I splurge. I'm pretty cheap on just about everything else, but a really good watch will be what I use to break the bank. :)

    Man City vs Fulham

I'm not really sure if I'd call Dale Johnson an "expert". He seems to be more of a PR conduit for PGMOL to defend decisions in most cases. I try to read some of his work on ESPN's website here in the US, and some of his explanations really make me scratch my head.

    Watches

So a bit off topic, but I’ll add it here instead of starting a new watch-related thread. Does anyone have an Apple Watch Ultra? If so, what do you think of it? I know it’s quite a bit more expensive in the UK compared to the US. The only two things I really splurge on are watches and laptops, so...

    Mike Dean

If PGMOL, PRO, or the relevant governing organization wants to make that public later, that’s fine. I stand by my original post. Post game interviews are pointless and useless for officials. They are not ever going to convince fans and pundits that referees actually can explain a decision. They...

    Watches

Doing some basic checking on the Garmin site, and the Referee Watch app mentioned does work on the Forerunner 55. In the US, that watch is $200. So for $75-80 more than a retro Spintso, you can get a running watch with step counting, GPS, the ability to structure customized interval workouts...
