    Junior/Youth Youth Games & Cards

I strongly believe that dissent and Offinabus you get the cards out early and for any age. Other fouls/infractions (even DOGSO) I give them a bit of leniency as their skills aren't as advanced You did the right thing by waiting, certainly a yellow.

    Junior/Youth My 2nd game - thoughts?

Welcome ImperialEagle. Great to hear some stories about refereeing in Germany. So you don't have any Assistant Referees at under15 level to help with off side? Not even someone from each club? I've been trying to get into better positions to judge offside when i don't have a reliable AR, which...

    Playing

I stopped playing about 10 years ago and at the time thought it was the right decision. It was nice to have weekends free and dedicate time to career and family. I didn't miss it then but do now and that is part of the reason why I've got into refereeing. i also help coach my son's team since he...

At what age of player do you apply the Law?

I've seen that before too. I think there are a few (but thankfully, very, very few) junior coaches that are using that amended law of 'no cards' to coach their teams to play that way. Any attack can be stopped by a foul, any sort of foul is OK as long as it stops them.

    Arsenal v Swansea

A yellow for mine. I can't see it's SFP/excessive force/brutality. Breaking up promising attack - yes, reckless - yes. You see something like this every week when it's tight at the end. An intentional foul to stop an attack, either via a trip, shirt pull, barge or push.

    Trust your instincts

Well done mate. It's also instinct for a lot of young players to play on no matter what the injury is, so a big part of our job is to take some responsibility for them.

    Italy V Spain

I've always thought ARs are underutilised. Why can't the AR on the other side get down that end for a penalty to watch encroachment? They can then hurry back to their half if it doesn't go in, but another pair of eyes can't hurt. Sending it off to IFAB now. Of course, they also must have the...

    Open Age 2nd game abandoned

So when you sent them from the dugout/technical area, they then came back to the same place to yell more abuse? then entered the FOP. Out of interest, what sort of ban would the manager and the assistant be looking at? I'm thinking it would be a few months to possibly the rest of the season??

    Confrontation and Rectification

I had a little in this course pack, refer page 31 http://www.footballaustralia.com.au/dct/ffa-dtc-performgroup-eu-west-1/Level%203%20Referee%20-%20Participant%20Manual%202015%20November_1p1xvpkjbfla01n8618y756xn4.pdf

At what age of player do you apply the Law?

I agree completely Moosey. By all means, change the laws to make it easier, safer and more enjoyable for small children. But get them used to the laws regarding discipline from the earliest possible age! No dissent, no kicking the ball away, no intentional fouls.

At what age of player do you apply the Law?

It only happens for 11 year old and below. A few changes to make it more enjoyable and put the focus on enjoyment and development. So it's half pitch or smaller, no offside, no cards, smaller box, keeper has to throw it out or kick off the ground. The FA here have proposed to extend this...

At what age of player do you apply the Law?

Under 15 certainly know what they're doing. A few of them would be close to, or a year away from playing senior football. I I've noticed that when I'm doing under 11s (modified rules here with NO cards) there have been many more instances this past season where a red card would've been...

    Open Age Absolute Disaster

Dylan, Paul, hats off to you for sticking with it. Surely it will only get easier from here and you'll have a great story to tell the grandchildren in years to come. I'm actually very surprised reading this forum at how your system works over there. Especially being appointed to adult leagues...

Are you giving a foul for this shoulder charge

If I was watching this game and a ref blew either way I wouldn't have a problem with it. FWIW my initial reaction was no foul, neither player had possession and the defender was simply stronger.

    First game today

Well done David. Funny how you can do the course, read the LOTG book over and over, then read these forums for tips and in the end, you learn more in that first one hour than all the other stuff combined!

Junior/Youth First season, First game - I didn't want to be the one who....

So my first game after passing my course is a local youth league game. I'd been a volunteer referee in m son's 10 and 11 year old small-sided football games so had some experience there. but they have no cards, no penalties, no offside etc. I was assigned my first game about a month ago. It was...
