    Open Age Coping with frustration

I assume this was the crowd you are talking about. Anyway, you done well to stay strong. I'll tell you one thing i've been on as AR in some games with hostile crowds before, and it doesn't make things easy. If you make the calls as you see them, and are confident about them, then it doesn't...

Teams playing in Black or very dark colours

Yeah, all good and well. Unless you're below Cat 3, which the majority of referees are, therefore the 4 tops could potentially cost you £188 if you go for long sleeve.

New Offside Interpretation - An Update

I don't know who's decision it was in England to adopt this difference of interpretation depending on the level, but i'll tell you for me it sounds ridiculous, and I feel sorry for the referees who may come across difficulties during matches this season as a result.

This isnt exactly a law question but...

There is no right or wrong way, as it is purely based on luck. So it doesn't matter who does the coin toss, or which team calls it. No team will gain an advantage. For me, I toss the coin, and ask the away team to call before I do it.

New Offside Interpretation - An Update

I don't know what the thinking is regarding this for you guys in England. But whoever decided that there should be one interpretation for one level and a different for another is absolutely crazy. I feel for you guys who will have to go out and referee each week and have to explain this to...

    Punishment for referee assault

Rather worrying for referees, particularly of the OP's county. Doesn't exactly send a deterring message to other players. The punishment should fit the crime, and in the case of the OP's unfortunate incident, it certainly does not.

    Punishment for referee assault

Similar in Scotland, but there is no way the OP's case would fall under a standard offence. For the disciplinary board to look at it and dish out a 6 game ban and £75 fine is unacceptable. What I was meaning was for the OP to contact the superiors in his referees association, to contact the...

    Punishment for referee assault

The exact same thing happened to me a number of years ago and said player got a years ban, equivalent to around 34 games. Absolutely shocking the level of leniency shown in your case. I don't know how it works in England, but I'd highlight your case with your county FA secretary/president...

The new clarification on interfering in an offside position

Should have had this amendment in before the 2015/16 LOTG release. Here's some guidance with clips from the SFA, which I hope can help. Manchester City v West Brom The two offside attacking players (white 8 and 18) do not attempt to play the ball, are not close to the ball and do not...

    Offside position

Had it with a corner kick as assistant. Taker lays the ball off short and team mate plays it back for him to run on to.

players understanding of the offside rule!

To be honest, some referees don't even understand the interpretation of the laws themselves. I had an assistant on with me at a final who had his flag up whilst the ball was punted in the air, on a number of occasions. Had to wave him down each time. It is this inconsistency which adds to the...

    Penalty Kick Quiz

Key point here is that the goal keeper must be facing the kicker. As per the scenario, as the keeper is not facing the kicker during the taking of a penalty, a retake must be ordered.

    Match fees

6 or 7? By god, you are keen . It can range. Generally I will have 2 every Saturday, morning and afternoon. I will get an odd Sunday, say 1 every 3/4 weeks. And when the clocks go forward in 5 days time, no doubt i'll get mid week games, 1 or 2 at a push on a Tues/Wed.

    Match fees

Referee - £40 for youth football, £45 for amateur. £20 of that is danger money for Glasgow and the surrounding area :D.

    Interpretation of the Offside Law

May be worthwhile noting that the vast majority of the time, shots which are touched by defenders will be generally be deflections. Due to the speed of the ball after a shot, they cannot deliberately play the ball, or play it as intended. Always remember this when you are next in the...

    Offside Clarfication

With regards to the first scenario, here is a few videos which show that any deliberate attempt to play the ball by a defender, even if they mishit it, the striker cannot be penalised for gaining an advantage by being in an offside position...

    Offside Clarfication

    1. Onside. Defender has made a deliberate attempt to play the ball, therefore the striker has not gained an advantage from being in an offside position. 2. Player can still be offside from a backwards pass. Think of the requirement for offside; if the player is closer to the goal line than...

    Vidic red card

Caution for me. However I can understand why Dowd sent him off. From his angle it looks cynical and very late. I think Vidic was genuinely going for the ball, albeit a very desperate attempt.

    Match pad / Score sheets

Same here. Plus how many times a season do you really need it. Twice maybe, 3/4 times at most, out of 40/50/60 games, or how many you do a season? This is an excel sheet which I use. Feel free to use and edit the content. I like to have a subs box and notes, where i'll enter the...

Open Age Denial of Goalscoring Opportunity?

It's not really a grey area. It says it in black and white, a goalkeeper cannot be guilty of any misconduct relating to handling offences within his own penalty area, no matter the circumstance. Indirect free kick only in all instances.
