Pepper spray disguised as free kick magic line spray? :D

    Teams Dropping Out

This happens loads in the Newcastle area where I used to play. Teams dropping out mid-season, though this was generally only the case when they were a bunch of knackers anyway. The fines build up, the players stop turning up as they don't want to pay them, the club gets caught playing a ringer...

Ladies First ladies, second line, first suited and booted

Very enjoyable game today, only spoiled by awful traffic on the way home. Definitely felt an improvement since my previous game on the line as I knew what to expect. Had some great compliments from both of the other officials about my 'lining' considering my experience so hopefully this will...

Managers think you were born yesterday !

Doesn't matter if either manager thinks it is ok or not ok, it boils down to whether WE think it is ok. One manager thinking it isn't suitable doesn't make us any more or less liable for something going wrong, thankfully. In terms of explaining ourselves, again, there's little to worry about, as...

    Childish kid

I would have sent him off and told the manager/parents that he leaves the area or the game stops. If anyone was to throw anything at me, that's it, I don't care how old they are. Not on at all and all parties involved would have known it. If the parent/manager can't control the player than...

Managers think you were born yesterday !

You always get knackers like this wherever you go. Players/managers/parents, you name it, you'll get it. I remember being told I was going to be reported to the FA by a manager for a red card when a player had called me a cheating t**t amongst other things. Generally they're all clueless idiots...

Yes sorry, suit for the ladies game this weekend.

    Junior/Youth Mini Soccer (Pass Backs)

Failing any clarification in the league rules, you could speak to both managers before the game. Ask them if the players are used to them being penalised and make a decision as to whether you will or wont penalise before the game, communicating it clearly to both managers. Last thing you want...

Ladies First ladies, second line, first suited and booted

Excited to get the nod for running the line for a ladies match this weekend of what I imagine is a pretty high standard. Just shows, badgering your local RDO can sometimes pay off! :) On a side note, got to dig my suit out on a Sunday for the first time as a referee. Good job i'm exceptionally...

Nothing to see here. Move on

Personally insulting, no, but rude, I would say that some of these posts are rude and unwelcoming, yes.

Fair enough. I obviously hail from the dictatorship school of forum moderation ;)

    Junior/Youth Quarter Final

Check your LOTG, there's a large section on it in there if my memory serves me correctly.

    What do you wear.................

Tracksuit and hooded top, smartish looking. If I turned up in a suit on a Sunday I'd be laughed off the park i reckon.

Nothing to see here. Move on

I find it quite ironic how so many people are accusing @John J of being rude in the OP. Have you read your own responses? Yes he was wrong but is this really the best way to make him aware of this? Not siding with anyone, but it reads to me that some people need to get down off their own morale...

How long left ref? Plus how much added time?

Is there a danger of massively over-thinking this? Certainly at grass roots level anyway! Two watches, start them both at the starting whistle, when it gets to 45 minutes then judge roughly how long you want to add on. Second watch incase the first one dies. You are the only person with a...

    First line

Very enjoyable today, little to do in the game really. Yellows beat blues 7-1, 3-0 up after about 10 mins which killed the game. Happy with the offsides I gave and pleased with the end product all in all. Looking forward to the next one. Cheers for the advice.

    freezing weather! keep warm!?

I haven't been brave enough for gloves yet but when I couldn't feel my fingers to write someone's name a couple of weeks ago I did ponder. I have been doubling up my base layer, so a sleeveless black nike baselayer underneath a long sleeved black nike baselayer, that makes a big difference...

    Struggling with numbers

I've only been to one local meeting and I found it really useful. A broad range of ages, plus a talk from an experienced local FA member on mass confrontations. Even though I'd had the same talk a couple of months back on my BRC, it was great to meet with other refs who were obviously a range of...

Ladies U17 v Open Age friendly

Be confident, pretend you've done open age thousands of times, don't be afraid to assert yourself. Think positive and use confident body language from the moment you arrive. Good luck!
