yes i agree with your logic, i just can't imagine a situation where a "reckless strike" would not constitute violent conduct.

    LOTG quizzes

actually, i'm really disappointed with this site. questions relating to dangerous play have come up with differing answers (restart with direct/indirect FK). also questions relating to impeding the progress of an opponent have come up with contradictory answers. I'm going to stop before it...

    LOTG quizzes

Just done one of these, and got a confusing answer: "A substitute enters the field of play without permission, and recklessly strikes an opponent. What do you do?" The answer given was: "Send the player off for two cautions, and restart with an indirect free kick" Surely the sending off...

    This weekend, what you got?

i've got a game - at the moment it's still on anyway. i was surprised after my last game when someone introduced himself to me afterwards, saying that he was a local referee and he had come to watch my game. it was good to receive some impartial feedback and i appreciated him taking the time...

Has anyone here played it or refereed it

well, i say that, i contacted them on Facebook making it clear that I don't have the conversion (no courses on at the moment) and they responded offering me a trial.

Has anyone here played it or refereed it

i play it regularly but having contacted the Futsal Referees Officer for Wales recently, I found out there are no scheduled conversion courses at the moment. Leeds @Futsal Arena is looking for Referees though, and you don't have to have done the course.

    "Have a word Ref"

I really like this and use it quite often. Sometimes you need to be seen to be "doing something" about a situation just to appease the players/manager/spectators. It can be as simple as explaining that you know the tackle was mistimed or clumsy not malicious but you still have to give a free...

    Open Age First game

that doesn't promote the integrity of the game. all i'm saying is, in line with what several others have said above, there are mandatory cards and there are cards that are open to interpretation. at recreational level, i personally feel it's best to try and manage situations rather than use...

    Open Age First game

when we're talking about recreational football, i think it's a factor in the application of law 18.

slight caveat - whatever works for you, everyone has different approaches. but football is a game of opinions :)

    Refereeing people you know

i like to communicate with players as much as possible so i would use their names. i always make sure i know the captains' names at the very least, and if i can pick up names through the game then i will. i won't use nicknames though. a couple of weeks ago a captain introduced himself to me as...

    Open Age First game

putting my player's hat on for a second, there's nothing more frustrating than the type of young & inexperienced referee Aled describes. players are always going to try and pull the wool over your eyes, so you have to be strong and confident in your decisions. do your best to take up good...

    Aerial challenges

I completed my 4th game on Saturday, 3rd v 5th in the league. It was an end to end game with some moments of real inspiration, and 5th completed a smash and grab 4-2 win despite being by far the poorer team overall. in any case, a discussion i had with the home team manager after the game...

    Assessments changing your style

i really like your point about being almost apologetic - we don't make the rules, we just apply them with a dose of perspective.

    Offside Clarfication

    1. the player is offside from the first pass, any subsequent touch by the defender is irrelevant in this scenario whether deliberate or not. 2. onside - what Jimmy said.

Open Age First game this weekend

one thing i was pleased with on saturday - my positioning from a corner enabled me to be in exactly the right place to give a goal that the keeper dropped into his own net before scooping back out. the players could see that i was in the right position and there were no protests really. when...

    Working as a team

I've read a lot in the last couple of weeks relating to the interaction between the three (or four) officials on a match day. in Wales, only the top 3 adult leagues in the pyramid have 3 officials per game, so the majority of games you're flying solo. while i am not under any illusion of...

Moving on from a bad game/mistake.

really useful that, particularly the point about not putting your hands on players - i'm definitely guilty of making contact with players when/after talking to them and i should try to avoid it. i also find myself too close to the action on occasion. i know this is because the standard of...

    Assessments changing your style

i think that's the kind of response i was anticipating when i wrote my original post. would you say that the them and us culture is inevitable or is it something that can be improved?
