Free Kicks - Direct & Indirect

What they said. Nb worth remembering a goalkeeper who commits a handling offence IN his area (e.g. pass back, picking up a throw-in) is INdirect. A goalkeeper handling outside his area is a Direct.

Blowing the whistle - book by Stuart Carrington (spoiler alert)

I'm about half way through it. Enjoying it and currently would recommend it. Agree that some things appear to be leaps of logic. Not sure if I would re-read it so may pass it on afterwards

    Who supplies the flags?

I will always take my flags to a game whatever my role. Just like I will take a coin despite no document in the world listing it in my compulsory equipment. His Twitter feed seems unusually confrontational and I don't think some of the things he posts are very helpful. He seems intent on...

    Its just ruining football

Tbh VAR is here to stay. In April the Premiership clubs will meet to see what they are going to do going forward but I can't see it being scrapped. Rugby's TMO had a problematic introduction and it's a real shame football hadn't learnt some things and refined it better before launch. One thing...

Not removing shirt but revealing a phrase

So if they lift their shirt (not over head) to reveal a dedication to some poor kid in hospital we can just let them carry on right?

    USWNT vs Haiti

Ouch. It's in the first 17 minutes. I wonder if the occasion got to them and they had a moment of madness. We can all make mistakes - even the best make slips. All we can do is learn from those that make theirs in the public eye.

Red or yellow card and why?

Red Btw why does the ref have blue socks?!?!

    Junior/Youth U12 Dissent

There has been time between both gobbings off so I can see why the double yellow. Yep try to treat it as a fresh game. Hopefully he'll remember that he cost his team a player through his actions and not be so gobby.

    Who supplies the flags?

Crikey. I just carry a set in my bag full stop.

    PARIS SG V MONTPELLIER

I presume the yellow is for dissent following the conversation. If what you describe is true JamesL then the ref has invited the dissent by criticising Neymar. The only thing I can think of is 'failing to respect the game' but don't think that this qualifies. Taking the p**s out of the...

    Sock tape/Jewellery

Managers 'should' be helping refs by educating players and only sending their players to the FOP when they are suitably dressed. I won't hold my breath...

    Tottenham Hotspur vs Man City

That had a VAR review too. It looked orange to me.

    Goalkeeper handball outside the box

Gotta love (hate) that the manager thinks that's a red card offence :wall:

Getting punched in the face - Bournemouth vs Villa

It did make me think of the word "careless"...

    Coin toss

Our course was told this as well. If this has ever happened then OMG.

    Coin toss

During my training I was told to never let the coin fall to the floor - or if you did to get one of the captain's to pick it up. The reason given that it makes it appear that you are bowing to them when you bend down

    FOG

Chelsea vs Charlton on Boxing day 1937. Game was abandoned in the second half due to fog. The Charlton goalkeeper Sam Bartram stayed in the pitch for 20 minutes more as he didn't know the other players had departed!

    Handball

Hah! :) I've given up caring and will now just ignore any / all handball posts as even VAR seems at odds with LotG wording :p I get that the wording is 'usually' but I've definitely seen softer handballs given

    Handball

    Yep agree with you both.
