Stepping back/taking a break from refereeing

    That seems grossly inappropriate.

Too many players - YC for coach?

This is just a perfect example of why it should not be left to random league chairmen to screw around with the LotG. The competition rules should say what the penalty for this is, but probably don't.

    Ref Six - Watch

Buttons are what I use and I love it.

    Sanction and restart for this?

I was going to mention this: I would still caution the player. In this case, it would be for dissent having kicked the ball away. In Canada, we don't use sin bins so it would just be a caution.

Got a good micro tip from my assessor on the weekend

In general, choosing the static option is the wrong choice. And you should be always scanning, so there should be no problem realizing and anticipating the late run from the attacker. I can tell you that most referees at a high level make this exact run across the top of the box and I can count...

First Year L4 - Second Observation

I agree that penalty appeals are not KMIs in and of themselves; but I think that a potential penalty decision which the referee correctly or incorrectly chooses not to give is. This is in the same way that we should be awarding assistant referees for correctly not calling offside on tight...

    Beckham red

I agree with you. We have developed a significantly more nuanced approach to VC and the really need to see that "brutality" is involved with the incident to call it that. Today, this looks more like UB-Lack of Respect to me.

    Sanction and restart for this?

I can see that. From watching the video, I don't think that the player in green is ever getting close enough to that tackle (based on the speed and distance he is covering) to be hit by anything but thigh/hip of the lunging player. Hence I don't believe that there is ever going to actually be a...

    Lesson learned!

The LotG specifically deal with this. They say that it is a sending off offence, even once the match has concluded. Perhaps I'm misinterpreting your first post, which indicated that the manager was "fuming." To me that's an easy sending off. In any case, it's unlikely that the so-called foul...

    Sanction and restart for this?

That is not what I'm seeing in the video. I'm seeing a lunge way out ahead of the attacker. Unless the attacker massively accelerates (which he does not have a body position to do), there will be no contact or else the contact will be thigh to foot. As it is, the incident before us yields no...

    Added Time

Generally, substitutions and goals should yield about 30 seconds of time added and then injuries are variable and should be tracked.

Got a good micro tip from my assessor on the weekend

Well if the ball is moving out toward the top of the PA, then you wouldn't run across the D. Otherwise, I can't see the issue, if the ball is looping back post, with side-stepping across the D, facing the gaggle of players. Even if someone is making a run into the box, just don't run into them.

    Pre match talk

I don't give this kind of talk. I let my whistle do the talking. The match is probably over and played by now but here's my standard gamplan for any match, but especially for one with teams who have disciplinary records: For the first ten minutes, we will call all fouls unless a clear and...

    Tough game being observed

Can you talk me through the KMI? What was the nature of the offense and why do you think you missed it?
  15. RyantheRef

    Lesson learned!

I disagree with your lesson. Foul throws are technical and trifling offences. I would only call one where it was egregious (as you did) and I can't really remember the last time I called a foul throw. That being said, a coach entering the field of play to remonstrate with you is a sending off...

    Match brawl

When a losing team scores a goal, it is always a flash point. It helps to be alert to this (I'm sure you will be in the future) and make sure that you get close to it as soon as possible, blowing the whistle and shouting at the team who just scored to leave the ball and get back to their half...

    Parent shouts

You should report this to the competition.

What action would you take ?!

There are two types of simulation: one where there is no contact, and one where the attacker initiates the contact and goes down screaming for a pen. This is the latter. A caution to W11 for simulation is required. In that case, quick and strong body language, showing urgency is needed. That may...

Junior/Youth U9 1st minute goal, leading to a lot of hassle from 1 8 year old kid

Just to be clear: what exactly did he say?
  20. RyantheRef

    "Snap him!"

Snap him sounds mighty abusive to me. I would support a sending off in this case.
