    Cup final errors

Again not a final, but closing stages of an U13 cup semi-final quite a few years ago. Corner played in and headed towards goal by an attacker, where it bounced straight off the outstretched arm of the defender and back out for a corner. I saw the handball, yet inexplicably pointed for a corner...

    Palace v Man City FAC

As always, I’ve waited until the day after the match to try to look at things a bit more objectively. I can accept the handball being missed in real time. The AR’s position isn’t great, so I can see how he could have either missed the handball, or thought that the keeper handled inside the box...

    Darren Cann Retirement

https://www.premierleague.com/news/4282307 The PL have confirmed that Darren Cann will retire following the City v Palace match tomorrow. One of the best in the business for a long, long time, and not sure how many others can say they've officiated both the World Cup and Champions League...

    Fenerbache vs Galatasary

Obviously it's a stupid thing to do (and very on brand for this version of Mourinho), but the opposing manager doesn't exactly cover himself in glory with that frankly embarrassing reaction.

    Wolves vs City

You can't judge interference by reference to what a player may or might do. To be interfering with Sa, he would have to be doing one of the following: "interfering with an opponent by: preventing an opponent from playing or being able to play the ball by clearly obstructing the opponent’s line...

Offside on the field, so not a rejected review.

    Lancashire FA RDO Contact

Hi all Does anybody have a direct email/contact number for Jacob Lehane please? Not currently refereeing, but want to keep up my registration and am being prevented from doing so as Whole Game is saying that my safeguarding course is out of date, but also not allowing me to book onto an online...

    Real Madrid v Man City

Nothing to moan about (for a change), but just wanted to say what a great job François Letexier did in the first leg at the Bernabeu earlier this week. Not come across him before, but thought he was excellent. Didn't fall for the histrionics of the players (which is far easier said than done...

    The end of the road?

Thank you everyone for the helpful and thoughtful responses! :) It's good to know that there are options out there, and I'll perhaps explore observing as a way to stay involved. It feels like the right time to step away from the middle, but equally it may be that I get to August/September and...

    The end of the road?

Not really sure what the point of this thread is, but over the last few weeks I've come to the conclusion that I may have reached the natural end of my refereeing career. I started at 14, which will make this my 17th season, and give or take a few months here and there with injuries I've been...

    Osula challenge on Konate

At the risk of seeming pedantic, VAR will have looked at the challenge in the same way they "look" at the rest of the match. At worst that's a yellow card (and even that's a stretch IMO), but there's absolutely no way there's anything there that warrants VAR involvement.

    Super Sunday yellow cards

The only positive thing that I can say is that at least AT was consistent in his approach. Having said that, it was absolutely the wrong approach and I think it went beyond what is an acceptable level of game management. Not sure who it was, but a City attacker got wrong side of Jesus in about...

Liv City - Klopp and Pep for maybe the last time

Of course I think that it's an accurate summary otherwise I wouldn't have said it. I'm simply offering an opinion based on what I've seen and read, which is that it was not a C&O error and that VAR was correct not to get involved. Me offering a summary of what I think I've read is just that...

Liv City - Klopp and Pep for maybe the last time

What on earth are you talking about? Please point me to where I have said the conversation should be shut down, or that there shouldn't be a discussion? For what it's worth I think it was a penalty, but I don't think it was a clear and obvious error and I therefore think it was right for VAR...

Liv City - Klopp and Pep for maybe the last time

Whatever your thoughts on the decision, the fact that we're 3 pages (and almost 50 posts) into a thread without there being a consensus is a fairly good indicator that: (1) the onfield decision by MO was not clearly and obviously wrong; and (2) Stuart Attwell was correct not to recommend an OFR...

    Junior/Youth keeper handball / crying

I agree and in that scenario you’re still enforcing the laws of the game. The skill level at U12 versus, say U17, dictates that the bar for what constitutes an OGSO will be much higher, so you’re much more likely to end up with an SPA caution than a DOGSO dismissal.

    Junior/Youth keeper handball / crying

I cannot stress enough that this is not the correct approach. If you are appointed to referee a match, regardless of the age of the players, you have a responsibily to enforce the laws of the game, and that includes issuing the appropriate sanctions where required. There are very few ocassions...
