    FOG

Game on Saturday was fairly foggy and I hadn't actually ever previously thought about what to do in such a situation. Luckily it lifted about 20 mins before KO and I had clear visibility the length of the pitch. But, what would the visibility need to be to abandon / pause the game? Not able to...

    Penalty mind games

That is superb! Would love to see this in one of my games.

    Ref in the way

I have no issues with a player moving me out of the way, even if on occasion it has been a bit robust. The way I see it, in most cases (maybe not the dugout example above) they're not doing it with the intention to harm, just doing it as they want to keep playing and not have their movement...

    Call offs

Only had one game since the beginning of November and that was on 3G. Have another Saturday as that is 3G as well, but it's been a really bad season for games being called off.

    Swearing

Haven’t we been here before with verbal offences?! :) As for swearing, I make it clear what I will tolerate before the game. If I’m in a very public place or have junior matches going on next to the game, I’ll make it clear I won’t tolerate any outbursts and remind them on the first offence. If...

    Abuse this season?

No real change in my experience. One RC this season (and only one for OFFINBUS in 5 seasons) for OFFINBUS and so far no sin bins. I think I had ~3 sin bins last season. Abuse is something I thankfully have rarely experienced or I'm too ignorant to notice.

Some talking points from my game on Saturday

How is it abusing the laws?! You'll be surprised, how many times in a game the CAR just shrugs their shoulders and says I have no idea, in view of all players and spectators. Through experience, I have found it causes a lot less drama and issues, by being clear beforehand what I will do in those...

Some talking points from my game on Saturday

I've found that explaining before the game the approach you'll take, goes a long way to helping keep things calm. In my pre-match briefing to the teams, I make it clear that if neither myself nor my assistant has a clear indication which way the ball in and out of play decision should go, I will...

    Another sin bin question...

Not sure about that one. I shouldn't have to remove myself from the situation to stop someone mouthing off. If you need to get back into position sure, but I don't see why I have to run away to "help" a player avoid getting removed from the game. I had something like this the other week, player...

Can the referee show a yellow or red card to a player in the dressing room?

Where does it say that disciplinary action is strictly limited to red or yellow cards? I think you're twisting what the Laws state aren't you? Referee can take disciplinary action from when they enter the FOP, that's the first line. So from then they have authority to act, not before.

Can the referee show a yellow or red card to a player in the dressing room?

Yea I would say if you've just rocked up in your car and someone shouts abuse at you, you can't do anything. Once I'm changed and have left the dressing room, that's when I consider I can take disciplinary action. Similarly though, once you've left the field of play, you can no longer sanction...

Leaving the field of play at the closest point during a substitution (West Ham v Spurs)

The caution part is too hard though, as most players feign injury and claim that is why they have to walk off very slowly, something that happens at park level as well. You can't prove they're not injured. But what refs should do, as you've said, is ensure every second is added on. If a player...

    FA app

One league I officiate in still has forms to complete, be thankful if you have a slow and clumsy website!!

    Leaving the field of play

Yea it was the winger, not the person taking the kick. So clearly for me not part of normal play and seeking to gain an unfair advantage. But that only refers to if they're in an offside position though, the winger was not in an offside position, just 2 - 3 yards outside the FOP. For me, if...

    Leaving the field of play

What action though? YC for unsporting behaviour? I though it was trifling, but the defenders and CAR were making a massive deal about it and getting wound up. So thankfully he stopped after I had a word

    Leaving the field of play

Maybe my misinterpretation, but I assume that relates to players leaving FOP during a tackle, while running next to a player etc, not deliberately leaving during a dead ball to gain an advantage

    Leaving the field of play

Match abandoned for players being n*bs

    Quick Offside question

How did you determine that he was interfering? LOTG spell out what should be considered interfering with an opponent, it’s then up to you to determine if the attacker has done that.
