Had a similar one earlier this season. Manager calls his team in while I'm doing a pitch inspection and says "first thing first, the ref" Surely the first thing you should think about is the opposition?!
I know 100% that he was talking about a game last season in which I sent of 1 player for...
Nice work @The Zebra
I've become a big follower of the NFL the past few seasons. Although, maybe staying up to watch the Super Bowl wasn't the best idea I've ever had!
It's now starting to sink in that little burton albion will be playing in League 1 next season. A lot of credit has to go to Gary Rowett as well, built a brilliant squad and Jimmy has come in and finished the job perfectly!
Brilliant season (so far)!! I'd have to pick 3 highlights because I honestly can't pick the best. 1) my cup final next Sunday at burton albion 2) Assistant referee for ESFA u18's vs Wolves 3) Refereeing ISFA u15's vs Leicester at St George's Park
Got the e-mail this morning to say I've been appointed to this years under 18 cup final. To make it even better, it's being played at Burton Albion!:D I'm liking the idea of seeing them being crowned league 2 champions on the Saturday then being an assistant there on the Sunday!
For me, if a player in front ducks out of a header, it's a free kick. Always given it, probably always will. I've seen a lad get knocked out because of it happening when I played so I know what can happen !
I believe, Webb did the CL and final WC final in the same season Steve. Obviously these aren't appointed by the FA but 2 pretty big games none the less!
I'd take it as the refs sec. backing your ability. I had a team a few weeks ago who I had last season and things didn't go well, 4 misconduct reports and a sending off, it was nearing the point of abandonment! A few weeks ago I was apparently the best ref they've had all season (they lost!!)
It's helpful to try and work out in the first 10 minutes how a team are going to play. Can help you anticipate play a lot better. I also try and watch some of each teams warm up (from a distance) to try and get an idea as to mentality, playing style etc.
I disagree with you there declan, OFFINABUS was a topic we discussed at length at our last RA meeting. We were of the belief that the law change was due to society moving on. In places, the use of foul language is much more acceptable than it was 20/30 years ago. Football cannot keep living in...
