    "Good throw"

I only do OA but I personally also look for advantage gained (i’m sure *someone* will tell me I suck and I’m a lazy ref - maybe should be doing mandatory caution??). If it’s a long throw into the box and it’s not correct I have no problem blowing for it...if it’s slightly dodgy (emphasis on...

    How long ref?

    Mandatory caution for dissent. :)

    Bloody Players

Thanks all for the feedback. The open question now given the overwhelming consensus is whether our friend and colleague @Padfoot can admit there is another valid point of view other than his own.

    Bloody Players

There are ways to "ensure" a player leaves the field whilst bleeding without giving permission. No? Including perhaps not cautioning a player when they do what's required by law.

    Helpful Captain?

Nice to see. This is an area I hear ifab is exploring in terms of giving captains actual responsibility. Like @Sheffields Finest says it feels like more often than not the captain is the loudest mouth unfortunately. Not sure giving them responsibility will help at all.

    Bloody Players

Just reading the LoTG @Padfoot. Law 5 says the referee must ensure that a bleeding player leaves the field of play. Surely a player leaving himself is helping us out and not a caution/fine. Seems common sense first of all and second I don't think the law justifies "mandatory" here. On the...

    Bloody Players

Had my third and final observation of the promo season today. Think it went very well and was challenging enough to show where I'm at (had to dismiss the manager and had a few other KMIs that I feel I managed well). Positive debrief after with good feedback and some top tips...so I'm pleased...

This is what happens when you are not in line with 2nd last defender

I was waiting for someone to post this clip...thought it was timely given how some were destroying CARs on the other thread. I'll take some of my Sunday CARs over this guy - sorry! ;)

    Junior/Youth Backpass?

Great job. Key is deliberate pass (or trick) to the keeper. This sounds pretty clear cut. I had one a few weeks ago that I posted about where the keeper came and nicked the ball off a teammate from the corner of the box. The outfield player frankly didn't know much about it so I couldn't say...

a parent posting about me on facebook

Ignore the post as you can imagine that comment happens to every ref for almost every game Just not posted - the public post doesn't name you, league, or teams. Don't let it effect you. We get those comments even when we have done well. but unrelated it sounds like a good opportunity to think...

Australia vs Syria - WCQ - penalty decision

That jump/contact happens on nearly every ball in air in the box. I'm not giving that. My guess is the that the box was surprisingly empty and the ref was watching those two players closely with the ball coming in. Since there was contact and red made the most of it he's reacted instead of...

Referee persuaded to change red to yellow

Sounds like a good job getting it right. Hugely embarrassing though.

    Ligue 1 red card

Harsh wording. Your opinion as a so called qualified referee is that this is not offinabus. Not necessary to suggest anyone who disagrees is unqualified.

    Help required

Not sure where you are but I have seen mini soccer courses advertised by Surrey FA. They also run a "conversion course" for people that have completed that to upgrade to level 8/9.

    Ligue 1 red card

One of the youtube posts on this labelled it "unluckyist red card ever" I completely disagree. First I think it is just possible he swiped it on purpose. The players palm is facing up and he only starts the gesture as the ref is bringing his card down. We'll never know but I'm not sure he...

    Offside calls

I was recently coached by an observer to deal with CAR/offsides in your captains talk. Tell the captains you are going with the CAR every time for offside as long as they are in a credible position. The trick is to tell your CARs in their briefing that you will overrule them if they aren't in a...

    Yellow Card?

I'm not sure about the first tackle being red. Yes I see the studs but is it excessive force, no control etc or is it that the foot pushed up as @AlexF says. And anyway as @RustyRef said no ref is going to catch a taxi to get to the foul and then produce a red. Yellow for me. Handball goal is...

Red, yellow or no foul? please vote and comment

From the position of the ref I think most of us would/should play on from that position.

    Europa league

Have to agree with @Sheffields Finest on replay. Think player is v clear he couldn't get the ball and went for the man. Being honest though I'm not sure I'm personally good enough to get this right on the day. From behind in real time I'm sure it looks like going for the ball.
