Open Age no name sin bin / red card

It isn't. Just referee the game as normal and deal with the situation. "Name please", "no", "I will give you one more chance, name please", "no". "Ok yellow card for the sin bin". That's it. Put in a report that the player refused to give his name and never think of it again. On to the next one

    Observation

I've recently qualified to be a level 4 observer and there has been specific efforts to ensure observers look at where the referee has been proactive to prevent certain KMDs. The fact that a lack of KMDs = bad marks has been recognised and attempted to be changed to be fair.

    Gloucestershire refereeing

I moved away from Gloucestershire 15 months ago. Your contact is Sam.Myatt@gloucestershirefa.com Sam will put you in touch. I was based in South Gloucestershire (Yate). I can put you 8n touch with local leagues there, but it sounds like you're more North of the county? Step 7 uses CARs, but you...

Junior/Youth What to submit extraordinary match report for/punch at U12

The Counties can do more of course and should do more imo. But refereeing is a hobby following the completion of the course. I often talk about my experience on the course, where I was one of almost 50 and learnt practically nothing, it was a shambles. But that leaves me and everyone else who...

Junior/Youth What to submit extraordinary match report for/punch at U12

This is true. But ultimately you're never going to cover even close to all the different scenarios. I never had a mentor or a coach. On my own from minute one but I was 33 and had been around football all my life, so I imagine for a 16 year old kid it must be very difficult for example. But...

Junior/Youth What to submit extraordinary match report for/punch at U12

🤣 40 now and no cards this season (first season back for 8 years).

Junior/Youth What to submit extraordinary match report for/punch at U12

I still remember my first booking when I was about 13. I think I've had about 70 since 😅😇 On to the original decision. Don't overthink things. A punch is a red card at any age group and at every level. There is nothing else to think about.

    County cup appointments

If you ref a game on any of the 3 channel islands always pack your passport (can get diverted to France in bad weather) and overnight bag. I've sat in an airport for 6 hours and then gone home when it got cancelled and flown to the wrong island with no way of getting back other than a boat 24...

    County cup appointments

Sounds like lazy appointing but nevertheless I would still do it. I've never tu3ned down an appointment based on geography. Rough with the smooth. Living on an island where it takes 20 minutes to get from one side of the island to the other, and with 2 of the 7 grounds within a 5 minute walk...

    Man City v Arsenal

There is a very clear reduction in the amount of stoppage time this season & that is not because there are less stoppages. We regularly saw 8-12 minutes each half this time last season and this is not the case now. There is no evidence that any initiatives have ever been consistently applied...

    Open Age today's game

Apologies if that came across as derogatory, I certainly wasn't intending that. I simply meant that I wouldn't do it that way but others may do it differently. It wasn't a negative comment. I am not arrogant enough to think that because I do it it's the right or best way.

    Man City v Arsenal

I am and was a "normal fan" long before I became a referee at 32 years old (and I still play). If you're refereeing to the Doku action then that was very much different as Oliver was pointing where the free kick was to be taken and Doku was kicking it in that direction. The idea of...

    Man City v Arsenal

They both went to the Euros which shows how highly they're both rated.

    Open Age today's game

No problem with those that want to do so. I'm fit enough to do it, I just never would. At the level where there's only club AR's, the referee cant be expected to do everything. At some point you've got to run back through a box full of players to get out of there too which I'd avoid. At dog &...

    Open Age today's game

Football has moved on from standing on the goal line at set pieces. It's not expected and I'd advise any referee from doing it. But each to their own.
  17. B

    Man City v Arsenal

Agreed. He lost concentration and allowed the free kick to be taken too early. He even raised his whistle to his mouth but didn't blow which further incensed Walker. It's not a failure of law but a failure of process. Maybe the ARs could got on the comms to help out out ultimately Oliver was at...

    Open Age today's game

That depends on a number of factors. Many teams take short corners, so if theres a 2nd player over by the corner taker then I'd be going more central. I'm not a big fan of being near the D but it has its place in certain situations. Also, look where the attacking centre backs are in the box as...

    Open Age today's game

Standing level with the goal line at corners went out of the game decades ago. It's very rare you will have a goal/no goal from a corner. The standard position is near the 18 yard box, opposite corner to the AR, although more and more are moving a little more central now. This position gives you...
