    Champions League Final

As an English referee until 2006 I doubt I would have given the handball. However, I have been 'reconditioned' since refereeing in France and that is a penalty in every game in Europe, VAR or not. I disagree with you guys about if the referee had not given it (which I doubt anyway), VAR would...

    Alternative Referee Shirt Colour

Hey guys, forgot my purple shirt! Just so you know, our referee kit is supplied by our clubs. Each referee is allocated his local club as a club member/liaison. Each season the club provide the referee with at least one new kit. As a consequence the referee will NEVER referee this club...

    Alternative Referee Shirt Colour

3 pairs of boots (2 moulded, 1 screw-ins), 2 pairs of trainers (for synthetic surfaces). Shorts all black. Socks mostly all black, but also have yellow, red and orange pairs in case of a clash! Sometimes wear the coloured socks under black socks, turned over so that only the top of the coloured...

    Man U v PSG

Found this taken last night, wonder if this had anything to do with the decision!

    Man U v PSG

For me the big difference here is the jump - if the players stays on the ground and turns his back, probably would not give it. In this instance he has turned, jumped and stuck his arm out! I should point out that my interpretation of DHB here is not always appreciated, as I began my...

    Man U v PSG

View from France, by a Londoner, with no Man Utd affiliaton! PENALTY In France and probably all of Europe except England that is now a handball (especially once seen by VAR). Anyway, from the 1st June in will be officially! Sure the defender turns his back, but he knows he is putting his arm...

    Sin Bin question (again)

Had this happen to me this season (here we have a minimum of 8 players). I had already issued 2 red cards, and then a 2nd yellow to the same player (another red) and the team were down to 8. 10 minutes to go and the elder of the team, decided he would call me out and really laid into me for the...

    Sin Bin question (again)

We use a white card in France for the sin bin.

    Sin Bin question (again)

Here in France, a 2nd Sin Bin offence is treated as a 2nd Yellow, so becomes a Red. Also any Sin Bin offence followed by a Yellow Card offence is treated as 2nd Yellow. Conversely, a Yellow followed by Sin Bin offence still only gives the 10 minutes!

Not allowed to referee on 2 consecutive days.

All appointments are by (equivalent of) county. It is nothing to do with cry-offs, it has been imposed by the FFF (national) medical commission.

Unfortunately they have not published any information on their findings!

Not allowed to referee on 2 consecutive days.

When I was younger I was known to do 3 games a weekend, Saturday morning and afternoon and Sunday morning. Then 2 (sometimes) 3 games midweek. In France each referee (and player for that matter) must get a doctors report at the start of the season that he/she is fit enough for this activity and...

Not allowed to referee on 2 consecutive days.

Hi Guys, How about shooting your own game in the foot. The FFF, equivalent of the FA in England, have decreed that referees at all levels are no longer to referee matches on consecutive days. It is possible to be assistant one day and referee the next or vice-versa. Here in France most adult...

    How's the sin bins going?

That is exactly how it is now here, the sin bin threat is enough. There is no need to remind the captains of it, they all know it WILL be used. It is very easy to concede one (sometimes two) goal(s) in the ten minutes, so dissent is now (almost) non-existent.

    How's the sin bins going?

This is at all amateur levels now in France. My level is Regional (the South West of France, a region the same size as Austria, or about 65% of the size of England) and Departmental, the latter is equivalent to County level in the UK.

    How's the sin bins going?

3rd full season, following 2 season trial in cup competitions. Excellent tool for referees. Dissent is almost non-existent here now. Not needed to use it this season, and my colleagues have also rarely needed it too, the message from the last 2 seasons seems to have had the desired effect.

    Non-black ref shirts at grassroots

New refs in France are advised to get black and yellow shirts. When there is a trio every ref has black or yellow to wear. As time goes on each ref gets other colours, so there is never a problem. As this from an English referee who was staunch black shirt supporter!

    Non-black ref shirts at grassroots

Here in France every referee is affiliated to a local club. The referee's club buys the referee a new kit at the start of each season, excluding the referee's first season when he is expected to get his own to show commitment. The referee will never be appointed to officiate his affiliated club...
