    Pre match instructions

I didn't 'take issue' with anything @GraemeS I provided reasons why the guidance should be counter to your view. It's also established that above grassroots level all the way to the top of the game that the 'accepted and established practice' is to have the subs warming up opposite AR2. This...

    Pre match instructions

It's established in English football from Step 6 right up through the professional game and in the wider international game up to and including the World Cup Final, however if you want to be pedantic, then I'm happy to change it to 'accepted and established practice' Heck, have your AR's run...

    Pre match instructions

Obviously the caveat here is that it's step 6 and above. Those officiating at below Step 6 with NAR's can choose to disregard this best practice if they choose to.

My First Game! U13 Bore Draw

Congrats and welcome. The whole concept of 'trailing eye' is a simple one, but quite challenging to master as it relies on your position on the FOP and your overall body position to be able to allow the eye to linger on any potential afters, plus then being able to transition to the next phase...

Cards at U7 and U8 level

I refereed my son at the lower age groups only because I was there anyway. At that age group there are very few fouls and not much in the way of tactics. Role involved mostly tying up laces and making sure the kids got involved more than refereeing. Was only as he started to get a bit older...

Cards at U7 and U8 level

For the first time in his career he was able to keep up with play is my guess! 😉😂

Nope no conflict whatsoever. Placing them opposite AR2 means there is going to be someone looking in that general direction for the majority of the time. It's not a distraction for the AR on offside as they will be wearing tops or bins that clearly distinguish them from the active players...

    Offside? YouTube clip

Agree - first one is incorrect in law and referee needs to establish why the AR has flagged. Second one is as you've said, a matter of opinion. In the AR's mind the attacker is in the opposing half when the ball is played. Agree it's concentration, I'll give a little context about the ground...

    First Red Card

Came up on one of my social media memories that 8 years ago today, I issued my first ever red card as a referee. Violent Conduct from the player, as he got up from a tangle he stamped on the player on the ground. I remember calling him over, pulling the red out and promptly dropping it at his...

    Pre match instructions

If it's in league rules (but none of the leagues I've ever officiated in state they warm up behind AR 1), then follow them for certain. However, I disagree there's Pros and Cons for 2 reasons: 1) Having them warm up opposite AR 2 means that you will always have a match official have the subs...

    Pre match instructions

This and also if they are warming up directly behind the AR you've got greater potential for them to start causing problems for the AR (dissent, OFFINABUS etc). Having them away from the AR's means if they really want to get involved in something, it's public and obvious.

    Pre match instructions

There are a few threads as noted above. I used to be guilty of the long linear pre match covering all restarts, but have really stripped it back recently. Edit - Forgot Senior/Junior Firstly identify your Senior AR. Senior AR - Full match record, including goals. You manage the technical...

    QPR v Cardiff City

The only real issue I have with towels are when a team uses them to waste more time when they are winning and trying to use every trick to slow the game down.

    Betis v At Madrid

I’m in agreement here. If the referee isn't punishing players with cards for offences that deserve them, then 'they've lost control of the game'. Whereas if they do punish them then 'they are making it about themselves' No win situation.

    Offside? YouTube clip

The AR in this instance knows exactly what an offside offence is. He was convinced that when the ball was played that the attacker was in the opposing half.

😂 I'm there this coming Thursday, might be a few more people in that stand! Knowing the red team manager, I'm surprised that they didn't need to deploy the defib when the offside flag went up. The AR who gave the decision is a good lad and he'll be mortified that he got it wrong.

How Much are Your Ref's Fees?

I'm not sure I understand.... What are these "other counties" you speak of?

How Much are Your Ref's Fees?

That has a knock on impact because these new refs will likely be given games at a higher standard than they normally would have been, which can often cause problems for them and impact retention rates.
