    Leisure leagues

I'm struggling with this thread TBH. Leisure Leagues in their current format with the current owners has been going since 2020. There have been a lot of negatives about small sided football on this thread, but I've yet to see anyone who has had a bad experience SINCE 2020, with this...

    Kit clash

It's really simple for me. As others have said - competition rules are king you need to check them, however having said that, I'm not looking to start being the one to lay down the law to both clubs. Assuming this is all done over email, I'd be referring both clubs to the competition rules and...

    First AR senior fixture

Speed of the game is likely to be quicker so you need to make sure you concentrate. Likewise the defenders are likely to be a bit more organised in terms of their gameplan (pushing up to play offside or having a defender drop in deep). Make sure you keep eyes on the referee, at Step 6 you'll...

Request to change sanction after game

If he asks nicely I'll very politely decline with the comment that 'no sorry that won't be possible I'm afraid.' If he continues to press the point that's when I'll be telling him firmly that he needs to drop it, or I'll be adding an additional report in.

    Disciplinary hearing

Stick to facts. In the <x> minute I did <y> because of <z> Don't get drawn into debates, or sucked into giving long winded answers. Short, clear concise answers are the order of the day.

    CAR foul throws

Never. It's easy enough as a referee to spot them.

Tips for getting into a new season

There's fit and there's 'match fit' and that's more than the physical, it's the mental and positioning that needs to be refined.

    Fourth Official Help

As a fourth official you are there to do a specific job, running off and acting as ball boy is not part of that and actually is disrespectful to the teams involved where playing a game with a team of 4 officials, versus at very best having a referee only (and often a parent doing the game) is a...

    next steps

My advice would be to stop immediately now you know. It's also a bit naughty of the club as they should also know better!

    next steps

Couple of things. 1) Where in the country are you? Members on here might be able to give you the RDO contact name to speak to if you can give the county you are based in. 2) If you are 15, my understanding is that you shouldn't be doing Open Age football, even as a club Assistant as the...

    Pre-match word with Captains

Most of the league games I do have a requirement for the captains to be present at team sheets 1 hour before kickoff, so it's a bit easier to speak to them as they are not so focused on the immediate game starting. Typically the only games I do in the middle now where this doesn't happen are...

    Penalty or no penalty

Nope not in a million years. My point was that players often see it as binary - either you have to give a penalty OR you have to book the player for diving The reality is, that there is middle ground. In this case, no penalty, no booking as whilst there is contact there is no offence.

    Penalty or no penalty

Not for me. Looking for the contact and went down the moment he felt it. One of those that the ref probably got "you've either got to give the pen or book him for diving" from the attacking team.

    Open Age Early booking

If the offence is a nailed on card, then you have to give it regardless of the time of the offence, scoreline etc. The challenge comes when the offence is 'borderline' reckless and you can choose to either manage or card. This is a really fine line to balance as either way has both risk and...

My First Game! U13 Bore Draw

Well done and welcome to the wonderful world of refereeing! Sometimes no matter what you do, it'll be your fault, even with teams you come across regularly. Be self critical on development areas, but don't get too high or too low when things go well or badly!

    Covid

There's 3 aspects to this: 1) Legal - there is nothing other than guidance now (in England) on what you do if you test positive. It's up to you whether you adhere to the guidance or not - either way there are no penalties. 2) Moral - Clearly there is a moral dilemma as to what to do, however...

    Liverpool-Inter

Sums up football commentary in general. Always looking for controversy and the language they use when negative is dreadful. If there's a tight call that the officials get right, they'll start with "that's a really tight one" then when the officials are proven right it's "they just about got...
