    City v Wolves

Totally agree. In England (correctly IMO and in accordance with actual law) this is absolutely not a C&O error. It's an extremely marginal HB decision (as evidenced by the debate both here and elsewhere in the media) where the on field referee's call should stand whichever way it is given...

    Barnet red card

You might be right on this specific occasion. However I've seen / experienced plenty of examples the other way, normally where referees pull out a YC when proper discussion with their active AR might well have resulted in the correct Red Card. As others have said, on a MCS like this, better to...

    EFL referee appointments

Hence a game this weekend between two teams in the bottom half of League 2 might be judged to be ideal ….

    Annual level 5-4

Roughly 90 promoted out of 120 nominated nationally

    Level 3/4 LOTG tests

You’re right. The only video that’s really annoyed me was the one where the throw in went bizarrely more or less straight up before landing on the field. The ‘correct’ answer for that, was apparently that it was a legal throw in … despite the fact that it was clearly taken in the wrong half...

Level 4 referee averaging above 73

The deadline for CFA nominations to the FA was 6th January so now just down to how quickly they turn it round at their end.

    West Ham v Nottingham Forest

For me, correct decision on the offside. Though a great example of a call which is never likely to be easily accepted by the wider football community. The defender is simply trying to ‘get a foot in’ rather than attempting any kind of controlled play. The sooner we scrap the unhelpful and...

    Brentford v Tottenham

Romero incident - foul and DOGSO Red. As not given on field, should result in a VAR intervention Gray incident - “seen them given” :) . No VAR intervention regardless of on field decision

Crewe v Bristol Rovers - Keeper Error (DOGSO-H?)

Really interesting. Kind of scenario where you could make a reasonable case for no sanction, YC or RC. In terms of DOGSO considerations, distance is fine. To me it’s also clear that the attacker would gain control of the ball. And the fact that any shot that ensued would be towards an empty...

    Reckless Challenge-after play stopped

I can totally understand the temptation. And in the context of that one individual game, it’s probably the simplest / safest / easiest thing to do. However, the problems start the following week when a different ref takes a wholly legitimate different approach, in accordance with law and...

Observers (Step 6 and above) To No Longer See The Overall Mark Awarded To Referees

Systems based on averages will tend to work (generally) well if: 1) The sample size is big enough. Where officials are watched on every game / the majority of their games, the vagaries of individual matches and observers will tend to come out in the wash. Any one ‘rogue’ match day can’t unduly...

What are the full list of referee levels from 1-7 (e.g 3F etc)?

At level 4, the vast majority of officials are in a dual role (ref and AR). At Level 3, all officials again start in this way, but within a few years they have to opt to specialise as a referee or an AR. By the time you get to the National List, almost all officials are specialising in one or...

    Throw-in

YC for Blue (not respecting the distance)) and RC for White (Violent Conduct) Restart definitely a Free Kick (as ball was in play) but unsure whether we go for a 'first offence' here or punish the more serious of two simultaneous offences

    LIV v PSV

Tell that to Liverpool .. they appear to keep losing by a cricket score ;)
  18. Russell Jones

    LIV v PSV

One might argue that there is no more normal or natural arm position for a footballer who wishes to appeal for a decision …. 😀

    Offside question

The offside law is choicefully constructed to be not completely ‘fair’. It is instead designed to encourage attacking play. It absolutely favours the attacking team by deciding that a player in an offside position simply ‘being in the mind of a defending player’ is not an offence.

    Gillingham Vs Crawley

No. But the footage is higher quality and it's pretty clear that the trajectory of the ball changes. The best angle to see it from definitively would be the side of the AR in question!!
