    Managing subs - 7-6 / 6-5

Has anyone seen a Sunday league ref force players to wait for their team mate to leave before coming on? I haven’t but I think it would be doable

    Managing subs - 7-6 / 6-5

I should add that I thought it would’ve been better for promotion candidates to be watched on Saturday games or at least higher level Sunday league, but I guess you have to take what you can get when MDCs are hard to find

    Unhelpful Club ARs

In my area some grassroots league rules say each club MUST provide an assistant referee so it might be problematic to turn down a substitute doing it (even though I agree with you it would make life easier!) My usual Saturday league doesn’t allow CARs at all and it’s much easier

    Managing subs - 7-6 / 6-5

I’m informally mentoring a 6-5 promotion candidate who has been marked down on a recent match day coach visit for not following the correct substitution procedure as he wasn’t making subs enter at the halfway line and wasn’t waiting for players to leave the FOP before allowing subs on. Fair...

    4th match. First 11 a side.

For some reason my preferred coin is a 10p, if none in the wallet then 2p or 1p will suffice. A cup final might draw out the 50p for the special occasion 😂

    Verbal distraction

Weirdly this has happened twice this season for me… both when the ball has bounced free from the box for an obvious 25-yard shot, with a defender shouting “BOOOO” as the attacker goes to shoot. Once the goal has gone in so no action (though you could argue USB but I didn’t get involved). The...

    Double headers

Needn’t have worried. 0 cards in match 1. Six yellows in match 2, however… the longer the match, the more scores there are to settle I suppose!

    Double headers

Yep 30mins each way x 2. And in some counties it counts as two games towards promotion, but if so you are highly unlikely to be assigned a match day coach as there are plenty of normal games for a very small number of coaches

    Double headers

I think the biggest issue if there are no reds will be remembering to reset my persistent infringement radar between matches. I’m on a top v bottom clash so a drubbing is possible… at least it’s not really my issue. One plus side is they’re good for 7-6 6-5 promotion candidates. Two of your...

    Double headers

This is OA Sunday league… we’ve only lost 2 or 3 weekends to the weather so far so it surprised me to be doubling up so soon

    Double headers

Seems a bit early to me but my Sunday league is starting double headers this weekend. It’s been years since I’ve refereed one. Any general advice? I’ve always disliked them in theory because if a player gets sent off in the first game they’re allowed to play the second one… which seems like a...

Chelsea vs West Ham - Inappropriate VAR Use?

Anyone else think it was weird that it took them 35mins (I think, correct me if sooner) to realise a cone was on the pitch anyway?

Delusional coaches killing the youth game

Some sort of observer monitoring coaches’ behaviour is actually a great idea. I’d support that

    Misapplication of Law

As others have mentioned, your best hope when on your own is to ask both managers to ensure the remaining 22 at the end of full time/extra time (depending on competition rules) stay on the FOP before pens. Any advice on what to do if you ask them to do so but they don’t? You can’t really go...

    Report

I’ve been the idiot who has done this before. Fortunately it was a Sunday league game and I realised before Monday morning so I contacted the CFA before anything went out. But all you can do is let them know, worse things have happened at sea

Pushed and sworn at by a player

It does raise the question of how much I would accept as a fee to be shoved. Maybe £150? 😂

Pushed and sworn at by a player

If a player pushes me (has only happened once in nearly 500 matches), I would (and did) abandon the match. It’s totally up to the referee to decide what they want to do and I hope you get support from your RDO and the player is handed a significant ban. Personally my view is that I am not paid...

Kit clash - Arsenal v Newcastle

Sweating the small stuff here, but I’m surprised to see the match officials wearing a near-identical blue to Newcastle’s goalkeeper, given Newcastle have a green goalkeeper kit that wouldn’t clash with blue (match officials), Newcastle (black/white), Arsenal (red/white) or the Arsenal keeper...

    Brighton v Arsenal

Great spot on the penalty - took a moment to compute what happened and got it spot on
