    Wealdstone v York DOGSO

I don't see a credible way to bring this back AFTER the shot has been taken. If we're going to treat this as DOGSO then we need to stop it before the attacker gets the shot away. Signal or not, the referee has played an advantage here. Let play continue and return to caution the defender once...

    whistles

Scratch this recommendation... Sounds great in a field by myself but according to my coach, the observer and both AR's, it sounds piss weak to everyone but myself! Back to the trusty fox40 it is then! 😂

Instructions to Match Officials for the 2023/24 Season

https://community.thefa.com/referees/step5-6/b/training-material/posts/pre-season-update Might not let you have access though if it's part of a folder available to L4+

    Replacement of FAMOA badge

No issues with levels 5-7 still wearing the FAMOA badge. You just can't buy it anymore so when kit is gradually replaced it will only be able to have your county badge on it unless you achieve Level 4 or above.

Instructions to Match Officials for the 2023/24 Season

Based on some recent training material from Dan Meeson, it changes the previous upper body contact being deemed a red. If it's upper body contact in the process of jostling for position or challenging for a ball then this becomes a yellow. If it's a clear shove or similar that isn't a proper...

New kit free... For L3 & L4 and above refs...

In time for the start of the season... My first game is in 11 days!

New kit free... For L3 & L4 and above refs...

The free kit provided by the FA isn't coming from RefStop. We're reliant on Kitlocker for that!

    Micro shin pads

The paragraph about Shinguards has also been added to the glossary in the LOTG this season. Wasn't there last season so I'd assume this is a deliberate clarification.

    Technical area offences - restart?

I dispute the logic being given by coaches and IFAB though. Law 8 says a dropped ball is used when law doesn't require a different restart. This is they keep referring to. However law13.1 DOES dictate a different restart!

    Technical area offences - restart?

I opted for IDFK on the boundary line nearest the offence. Indirect due to there being no mention of contact. Apparently, according to our CORE leader and IFAB (after a @JamesL email) its a dropped ball from where the ball was at the time of the stoppage.

    Technical area offences - restart?

Is it even a free kick...? Law 8: "A dropped ball is the restart when the referee stops play and the Law does not require one of the above restarts." Law 12 doesn't dictate a free kick for coach on coach offences. Law 13.1 says free kicks are awarded for offences by team officials...

    Technical area offences - restart?

Indeed, but law 13.1 states: "Direct and indirect free kicks are awarded to the opposing team of a player, substitute, substituted or sent-off player, or team official guilty of an offence."

    Technical area offences - restart?

We were given this question on a CORE meeting tonight... @JamesL and I were not happy with the answer given!

    Advantage on DOGSO

The referee didn't stop play and restarted with the TI. However, in law he should have stopped play after the first block/save and awarded the IDFK.

    Advantage on DOGSO

I mentioned it once and then defended myself... At no point have I said I'm basing my decision on the outcome. I'm basing it on a solid advantage. You can try to change the scenario to suit you or you can use your eyes and see the clear advantage. 😒

    Advantage on DOGSO

How do you know what I was thinking? Regardless of whether it's a 2nd yellow or not, the attacking team have a clear goalscoring opportunity as a result of the advantage. My comment about the 2nd yellow is valid though, neither team is going to argue this decision and, apart from the incorrect...

    Replacement of FAMOA badge

From what I've read this will be fine. The longer term vision is for AR's to be in county badges. As people L5 and below gradually renew their kit they will only be able to get the county badge. It's only the referees at L4 and above that are no longer permitted to wear the FAMOA badge in any...

    Advantage on DOGSO

If you play advantage and intend to go back and issue either a 2nd caution or a straight red you MUST stop play if the offending player gets involved in play again before the next stoppage. Restart is then an IDFK.

    Advantage on DOGSO

Let's say you don't play the advantage and the attacker slides the ball into the net. He's 1v1 with the keeper and I'd hazard a guess that ANY professional attacker would back themself to score there. The 1v1 was a better opportunity to score that the free kick that'd be 25 yards out. The...
