    Ex Pros becoming referees

I was just going to say the same to Peter! A misplaced pass or header is not at all the same thing as the ball just hitting the leg. foot or head - which is what I would call a deflection.

    How to shake off mistakes

I think its only on here and chatting with fellow refs that " Sorry I didn't see it" is , correctly, seen as a possible error on the referee's part. Most players etc will accept that if you tell them. Sometimes though, there WILL be incidents that you don't see even if you are in the "correct"...

    Liverpool vs Wolves

Possibly. As far as ITV goes Floor Managers and the technical staff will always be freelance, producers a mix of staff and freelance - editor of the show and director and senior producer usually staff.

    Ex Pros becoming referees

In some instances, yes, but the guy jumped off the floor and headed the ball - don't have to be particularly 'expert' to call that a 'play'

    Sheffield Wednesday v Newcastle United

That was "ex professional" Martin Keown - we need them to become referees don't you know? :p

    Liverpool vs Wolves

I get you disagree with the law - but under the law, surely that was the correct decision? That's not a deflection, he's clearly played the ball there?

    Liverpool vs Wolves

    100% agree I think that's what's happened.

    Liverpool vs Wolves

Money!!!!!!! You're asking broadcasters to just blow their budgets there!

    Liverpool vs Wolves

There will also be minimum Host Broadcast standards re number of cameras though - that's down to the FA to specify in the rights contract. It IS up to the rights holders - the broadcasters to organise the production company though. Some do hand the whole thing over to independents, but most...

When you can't decide who's fouled who?

Also, to take the heat out of the game, even if only careless, nothing stopping you calling player over to talk to him. Gives everyone a chance to calm down, give him and your self time to get into position - there's no rush, and you'll find, a lot of the time, the atmosphere has calmed down.

    Ex Pros becoming referees

And yesterday's ambassadors for ex professionals were Mr Keown and Mr Murphy - again! Newcastle goal - MK " Yes he was offside but the ball hit the GK so OK" Liverpool goal - DM - "That's a deflection, he's offside. They don't even apply that law consistently in the PL"

    Ex Pros becoming referees

On that basic knowledge point - An ex QPR player, now club ambassador thought then when a GK caught the ball just outside the box recently (Sky match v Sheff Utd - some of you may have seen the incident), that the handball should not have been given because he had a foot inside the PA :rolleyes...

Fans I get, but going to have to reveal I worked in ITV Sport for nearly 38 years - they CAN cope with live events, whatever happens!

    Frustrating Level 4 Assessment

More seriously took me just over 2 hours to do 24 miles earlier in the season - I kid you not!

The list of offences routinely ignored in the EPL

I think most on here understand that it is a different game at professional levels. Mentioned before that David Elleray's reasoning many moons ago was that dissent at the top levels never, well hardly never, leads to physical violence against the referee, whereas we all know that at grassroots...

    Added time

Its not that diffuclt to solve. For cup matches broadcasters have to have 3 schedules/running orders - "90'"; ET no pens and ET with pens. Decades and decades of covering live sport now, I think the boadcasters can cope! It was the PL who released the statement saying that THEY were not...

The list of offences routinely ignored in the EPL

But we're back to the debate we had before Christmas in that case - pointless having laws in the LOTG that everyone knows are not applied.

GKs and referees to wear different colours Players not to be treated on the fop Delaying restart of play by many other imaginative ways!
