Not been a ref long, but long enough to see the damage that is being done to our youth game by certain people who are not fit to be coaches. Their general bad attitude towards us referees flows down through onto their young impressionable teams and their frustrations and little high-pitched...

Have you considered taking a step down (sorry not too sure how it works in England) and taking on youth games etc and that might help build confidence up and maybe help. In my first year I have found managing players is easy, the coaches... not so much.

One for all newbie referees including myself who have found that they didn't actually start their watches before starting each half. So what would be your best practice?

I would actually prefer some feedback from the clubs themselves on the day. Points are one thing, but they don't tell the whole story of what you could have done better. I only do youth games, and the only feedback I get is from the coaches at the end.

I suppose you need to look at the Sunday Morning games at the park where there will be less evidence around to support an appeal than there would be in a PL game. So basically the higher up the league the more chance an appeal is successful. For me, we shouldn't take anything to do with appeals...

To be fair, the Scottish media rarely get their knickers in a twist if it doesn't involve Rangers or Celtic. These decisions matter more; in one side's eye, they will never be 100% correct.
