That's interesting - I observe in leagues above grass roots, through to semi-pro, and the visible count has been a regular feature in every match. I observed at around 65 matches in the season just finished. Only on 3 occasions did it result in a corner kick award, so the count did its job

My observation is concerning why the IFAB decided those rare 3 corner kicks couldn't have just been 3 rare IFKs instead. The count seemed to perfectly solve an issue while introducing another one, which is a reoccurring theme being seen more and more often.
 
We often criticise law changes, but the keeper 8 second and the new changes this season seem to be really enhancing the game as a spectacle. Restarts are now so much faster, the change it has made to the amount of time the ball in play is going to be interesting to see. I would guess it will be at least 5 minutes per game, probably more.

I was shocked/surprised by how much faster… I expect some different pacing from country to country and league to league.

Maybe I am not understanding you. You seem to be indicating that 8s is being enforced at every restart? This is fundamentally wrong and not consistent with the law or the protocol that accompanies it.

8s applied to keeper control only.

The 5s applies to when we would have previously blown the whistle to usher a restart, with maybe a greater emphasis on earlier intervention i.e. "When the referee determines that a throw-in/goal kick is being deliberately delayed by the team taking the restart:" which would be surprising if this was every restart.

None of this should affect the referee, their position, or their reset focus because I would like to think we would be in our position before we start counting.
 
Also on this topic why hasnt corner kicks been included?

That's often a time when attacking teams delay taking a restart to waste time.

No. You misunderstand. Deliberately I think. And I disagree.
It fundamentally affects the referee. I just watched a Uefa referee in a tight match. It was impossible to be in position before every count. But I also think he interpreted the count quite ”actively”. I know from futsal that the same count can be used at a very different pace depending on match context.

Not deliberately no. Your saying in the same breath AR counting 8 7 6 which I have misinterpreted as applying to all restarts less CK.

I understand that there will be occasions where position is impacted but not as impact fully as you are describing imo.

There are solutions to the problems you are presenting. I think we have to be super careful not to rush teams. But to ensure they don't delay. It's a fine balance and one which might take some time and different interpretations to make sure we get to right.

I think we need to be clear about the bit I posted from the guidelines, that we only count when a team is delaying. Not count to rush a restart that is taking a normal amount of time.

Dunno about anyone else but I can count from pretty much anywhere, except maybe underwater.

So I'll be fine until February 🌧️🤿🛶
