The Ref Stop

England v Croatia

The Ref Stop
Just seen 3D image.
Close but onside.
These high sided stadia really are affecting the camera perspective. Lost count of the amount of times it’s looked wrong and been shown to be right and we’re still in the first round of fixtures.

Yeh this is an angle issue. Naked eye looks offside. Spin the camera in line can see it's tight but as 3d confirms onside.

Impressed with refereeing team so far.

Got a question about subs and hydration breaks.

We know we have 3 sub windows per game. Making a sub at half time does not count.
What about during the forced hydration break? As the Americans keep online its quarters, not halves (tongue in cheek).

Holy guacamole, England has attacking talent. Not quite sure about the defense, but it may not matter. England can just say “best defense is a great attack.”

Turpin and crew with exactly the type of performance we would expect from that crew.
Granted, both teams were playing and not engaging in dumb stuff, but some of that might have been because Team Turpin set the tone.

The hydration breaks don't add to sub windows, you still only get 3 plus half time.

I would say that is probably as good a referee performance as you are likely to see. Love the way he is so unflappable and takes it all in his stride, the younger Clement Turpin wasn't like that at all and he has really progressed to be one of the best there is, in my opinion the best in the world.

For appearing to be a relatively small and unassuming type of guy, his presence is impressive. No drama, no massive “death stare”, no theatrics. Just a calm, quiet confidence. He’s the guy that doesn’t need to say much. He’s like the guy who sits in a meeting for 40 minutes, quietly taking notes, and then asks a question that shifts the entire tenor of the meeting for the last 15-20 minutes.

Even Mrs L said how good the referee was. Great start. His problem now is if the French make the final

Check under the attacker's left armpit and you will see a defender's foot closer to goal line.

I didn't like the process for explaining the reason for penalty retake. Many thought it was a goalkeeper encroachment. There was some tech malfunction too.
It was goalkeeper encroachment too to be fair. Could have been either.

The offside was tight but correct. Even my notoriously anti-ref dad said Mr Turpin was tremendous. He makes it look effortless. He's one of the best I've ever seen.
