While I did watch the match very shortly I found it interesting that these dives were called. I am very happy they're being called, don't get me wrong. But I have a feeling that this amount of enforcement in one match is relatively new? Considering that we've seen plenty of these moments in recent games.

So what was the shift to start enforcing even more? Is it the pressure that came onto PGMOL when it came to dives within games or the "soft" tackles that are being given? As was mentioned in another thread regarding the Arsenal defensive foul committed by Jesus.

I then saw "this" clip circulating on a reddit community and noticed that quite a few people were pushing the narrative that obvious simulation should change from caution to dismissal in an effort to completely curb unsportsmanlike behavior.

Any thoughts regarding this very welcome enforcement, is it a one time thing that we're seeing due to the obvious dives, should discussions about changing the given offense happen and what would you guys like to generally see when it comes to diving?

The Ref Stop
One part of me would like to think there is a new directive to clamp down on diving. But another part of me thinks it's just a coincident these two happened in the same game. The player(s) goes down so hard that not stopping play is not an option. And the dive(s) is so obvious that the referee loses all credibility not giving it. Note that there is no complains about either of the cards.

As it is referees are too reluctant to call simulation. Making it a red card will make it even a rarer occasion to see it called.

we've spoken about this before

i'd advocate for a panel to sit and rule on dives like this and hand out bans/discipline sanctions etc

i especially hate the diving during defensive actions to 'win' free kicks

Good news🤭!
FA guidance:
Key details on FA action against simulation:
  • Threshold for Action: The simulation must have led to a penalty kick or a direct red card/second yellow card for an opponent.
  • Process: A panel of three experts reviews footage independently. A charge is only issued if the decision is unanimous.
  • Penalty: Players found guilty receive a two-match suspension.
  • Timeline: Action is taken through a fast-track system, often before the player's next match.
  • Retrospective Action: The FA can act even if the referee was deceived during the match, provided there is "clear and overwhelming" evidence.

no no, i want it for everything, regardless of outcome (red/yellow/penalty etc)
