The Ref Stop

Am I being held back unfairly?

Thanks alot.

So frustratingly RDO says he can't find previous application.

I have been back on emails and have confirmation email and also can see on the Google forms what specifically I selected.

I did tick the "do you want to be considered for womens pathway" as I didn't understand at the time . Not sure if that's where the confusion lies and I actually applied for women's pathway.

Annoying that RDO isn't one to answer phone so it's many emails back and forth.
If you'd successfully applied for promotion you would have had to pay the fee, so should have a record of that payment on your debit / credit card statement.

Well done on challenging. I refer this back to the word 'fairness' on your original point. Nothing is fair. You're reliant on people (including yourself) and people are flawed.

You've done exactly the right thing. ***** footing around the issue does nothing but encourage further inaction and delay. Personally I'd go and see the RDO in person, but that's just me. But keep your written comms clear, to the point & polite. Always 'look forward to your response'.

Once you have you promotion application sorted then be very proactive yourself. If you have free days then write to leagues and tell them you're available, even in neighbouring counties.

No point waiting to see if things run 'fairly'. Go and make it happen.

Appreciate that and have a further update:

Now been told I can count my previous games towards my promotion so both a relief but also another reminder of how unnecessary this whole episode has been as feel the momentum has been effected and also the double promotion I had hoped to achieve is now impossible. (I stopped reffing while it was all getting sorted so would have been a further 12 or so games down the line)

But I guess I'll have to just take the positives and work my arse off to get my level 6 before the end of the season.

Think I'm roughly 8 games in.

Cheers guys

One thing I'll say you to Gio. A very wise man called Ed once said to me 'there is one thing I can guarantee you in the world of refereeing, and that's disappointment'.
Set backs are inevitable, and it's how we use them to make us stronger that counts.
I like this. In refereeing the only real win you can have is to not be noticed. I mean getting a final is nice and all that. But when you screw up. Everything is thrown at you. One below average or poor game and you can pretty much kiss any chance at promotion good bye.

It is a pretty ruthless hobby.

The really vital bit of this is for you to ensure that you meet all the criteria, not just the number of middles you do.
The pathway was changed to give newer referees the opportunity to progress quickly if they are good enough and sufficiently engaged with the process.
It's up to you.

I observe referee from 7-6 down to 5-4. The common theme is that they have been hard done to at some point. Welcome to life. My advice is always to drop the woe is me stance & get back to how you were before your 'knock'. Because if one 'knock' sets your mindset to self pity then it's going to be very difficult to progress.

Work harder, eat better, get fitter, try your best in every game & the rest just looks after itself.
