defender is naïve, especially because something similar happened earlier in the game!
I can see where you are coming from but it also doesn't quite sit right. Play hasn't been stopped. You can't pick the ball up. It's essentially an advantage situation.
A totally bizarre situation I'll agree too.

I hate it when a fouled player grabs the ball BEFORE the ref has blown the whistle even if it is an obvious foul. I always want the ref to give handball but they never seem to. This is a strange sort of reversal of the situation. Very silly of the defender !
I did. Once. I won't rush to repeat it!

Is it a blatant free kick? The striker and defender are going fairly slow. Defender gets a clear foot on the ball and there isn't really any afters, a slight clip of the ankle that really is referees discretion.
Can't tell if the referee is playing advantage or not as his arms are fairly active. But if he is playing advantage, I can't really see the advantage he is trying to play.
