U12 game today. Red team were losing and getting agitated, I had already sin binned 2 players for swearing at me. Red goalkeeper was going for a drop kick and took the ball a solid yard or 2 outside of the area, DFK. Red coach (who questioned an earlier decision) questioned the decision again, claiming that the ball had left the keeper's hands before he and the ball left the area. This is now 2nd time so I decide to YC for dissent. He gives me the name "John Fury" (for those who don't know, John Fury is famous boxer Tyson's dad, and he looked like John Fury too) This is the first time this sort of thing has happened for me so did I do the right thing in the moment by just taking "John Fury" and leaving it there? Also, what do I do in regards to reporting on WGS? Thanks

If he wants to be a kn*b, let him.

Put the name in on WGS, attach an extraordinary report stating you believe he provided a false name, as it isn't on WGS.

Let the CFA Discipline team have him for acting like a U12 player himself.
 
As like what george said, just inform the CFA you think the name is fake. In future, you could give them a final warning about the name and see if it makes them change their mind, or not. Up to you.

How old are you, and how many games in?

while it doesn’t in any way excuse the coaches behavior and he clearly earned his card, this is plausible. You say a yard or two—they’re a significant difference between one and 2 yards. Many GKs do release the ball in the area and kick it well outside. I’d suggest this a call to be careful about making, as it I easy to be wrong unless positioned as an AR right on the PA line. Given the serious consequence of the call when made versus the potentially trivial impact of the violation, you want to be really sure before making this call as it can be deceiving. (To be clear, this is not a criticism—simply a tip to consider for the future.)

Oh, and while you don’t say what they said, in my games a player who swears at me is gone at any age. But at I’m distinguishing. I won’t necessarily toss for “that’s a @#$&ing bad call,” but if there is a “you” connected to anything directed at me, the player is gone every time.

I am so sorry to hear this.

You will find lots of theads on here about how to interpret offensive and abusive language. Handling abuse at any age is difficult. You may also be victim here of “last week’s ref” - other referees who have not acted to properly discipline players of this team/league.

To be frank, I would come down very hard and early if a 12 year old swore directly at me. It would be highly unusual here. My red card bar would be very low for this. And if I did go yellow I’d be talking to both coaches to make it crystal clear that abusive behavior won’t be tolerated.

While part of our job is to “manage” games, a big part of it is to punish the guilty!
 
@ramref sorry to hear about this. As others have said, at U12s swearing shouldn't be tolerated, but how you handle it exactly is up to you. I reckon you probably wouldn't have been given the fake name if you were older and therefore potentially less vulnerable in a confrontational situation with an adult coach. I'm 15 so I know what it feels like to have adult coaches trying to undermine your authority thinking you won't do anything about it. Swearing at a ref is abuse - simple. If you feel in anyway insulted or offended by it (or abused), it immediately becomes a red card offence for OFFINABUS. It never fails to amaze me the language coming out of kids these days! This is leads me onto a small pointer. When it comes to keepers and releasing the ball in/out of the PA, be very careful. It's murky waters, as it can deceive easily. If it looked a yard or two out, it was probably in, and these are very hard calls to judge. Overall, it sounds like you dealt with everything OK though so well done.

Yes, you did. For your knowledge, the CFA will contact the club with the fine and once they find out it is a false name (never assume it is), they will charge him / the club with a further offence - which produces a nice additional fine for them. If they want to be a plonker, they will pay for the privilege! 💰

100%. It's one of my great joys. Been creeping in at U18 level this season. Whether they're being Billy Big Balls and calling themselves "Lady Gaga" or giving another player's name*... I ask, they say, I confirm, I write that down then report it.

(* had that twice early season - one a ringer, and one trying to stitch a 'mate' up with the caution fine)

Not interested in a stand-off, or potentially looking a right mug if their name actually IS Michael Mouse or Harry Potter. They can have their moment of "huhhh got one over on the ref". That won't last once the paperwork arrives from CFA.

Did have one lad pre-season (or may have been first week) run over after the game - probably encouraged by his manager after boasting about it - to apologise profusely when he said his name was Willy Wonka and I simply asked "Is that w-o-n-k-a?", wrote it down, showed yellow and got on with it... and then reported exactly that. Heh.
 
Good luck in your career .How a grown man ,who is the manager of a kids team ,act like a prat to a 15 year old Referee.Hopefully the FA will look into this more.In sny area of life a grown man acted like that to a minor ,the Police or another adult would have dealt with him .

Thanks very much, i've found stuff like this is very rare for me and it doesn't seem to affect me because i know a fully grown man acting like that towards me is just childish
