How do I stick on my County badge?

Level 5 Referee
Hi all, new ref here.
I've been given a county badge to stick onto my shirt, but double sided sticky tape only lasts for 5 minutes before it comes flying off.

Is there a permanent way of sticking the badge onto my shirt?

Thanks

Velcro is easy to apply, and allows you to temporarily remove the badge when the shirt is washed.
You will also receive an FA badge once you complete your first five games. Same procedure.

That is interesting. Is it currently supposed to be the case everywhere (i.e. receiving a badge ['county' and / or 'FA']), or does it vary across counties?

I ask because my son (based in England) did the basic referee course and completed his first five games earlier this season & subsequently received from the county RDO a congratulatory email with an attached pdf certificate confirming that he had qualified as an FA referee.
A badge (county or FA) was neither received, nor in fact mentioned at all.

The email also said that he was now a Level 7 referee, which I believe is incorrect on account of his age (he is under 16).

He currently wears a plain black referee kit when he officiates (no badges). Is that acceptable? I do not believe that he has at any time been advised to wear any particular badge by his mentor / RDO / etc..

As he is under 16, he only referees youth and mini football at the moment if that makes any difference to the issuing / wearing of a badge.

Any advice gratefully received (and apologies to the OP for jumping in on the thread).

Thanks in advance.

Hello!
I think it varies by county and maybe depends on how much contact you have with the RDO.

Some counties give it at various stages, e.g. After doing the course, after 5 games, after being appointed to a cup final etc.

I'm sure there's no harm in sending an email asking for one, but at the same time, it's probably not a big deal :)

I might be completely wrong, but from what I've seen, there's no fixed procedure on if/when you receive any badges.

On point 1, that’s a simple admin error. He will be a level 8. But don’t sweat it, it’s not an issue.

On point 2 and 3 it’s absolutely fine to just use the plain black kit. The badge adds a bit of “properness” in the eyes of players and coaches. Once he moves into senior football, there are more protocols around badges. Some leagues like you to wear their badge ( *cough* money spinner *cough*) but it’s not mandatory. For FA competitions it’s supposed to be a county badge, not the FA referee badge, whereas for others the FA badge is sufficient. It certainly wouldn’t hurt to purchase one either the DECAL heat transfers or a see on/Velcro version. There was someone on here who supplied them (I can’t find his details though!) or eBay.

On the badges in general you might also find this thread helpful: https://refchat.co.uk/threads/the-fa-badge.17305/

The County badge is a decision made by the local CFA but The FA confirm the completion of the course by sending a certificate and FA badge to all who report their five games completion in my area - presumably they do the same for all counties.
I suggest a call or e-mail to the RDO to check their procedures, which should have been advised during the course.
Good luck.

Does velcro last? I've got a new badge and was planning to go with velcro but everyone I've spoken to says it'll just fall off.

Good standard double sided tape works, I spent years taping county badge over FAMOA for FA and county cup games, and it never fell off.

Sorry to be bringing this thread back up...

But I also wonder what to do with the badges the county sent us. Do we need to get someone to have them embroidered onto our kits? Or would you rather order a kit that has the logos on them already?

Would it be possible to purchase a velcro attachment that u stick onto the kit?

Velcro and double-sided tape both work well, and allow you to change the badge when competitions require it.

Can someone please explain how you stick the badges using velcro?
I've done it using pins/needles for the last year. Ordered some velcro tape, but it only sticks to the kit and not the badge, so I've never used it.

You need to sew one side of the velcro to the shirt and the stick the other on the badge. Sewing it onto the shirt isn't easy, and can cause the shirt to misform when washed. Double sided tape is a much easier option.

Sorry it’s an old thread. How do you get hold of a county badge? I’ve bought the decal ones but would like to attach one with Velcro when needed. Thanks.
