Promotions/Reclassifications

Just received an email from the FA regards promotions and reclassifications. If you want the full text check your emails which appears to be sent to Level 3, Level 4, 3W-2W, 4W-3W & 5-4 promotion candidates, CFA RDOs

“With football outside the elite level paused once again we have been contacted by a number of officials and County FAs regarding the promotion/reclassification processes across the men’s and women’s refereeing pathways for season 2020/21.
At this moment there remain too many unknown variables which will impact on any decision regarding referee promotion and reclassifications across the refereeing pyramid. Until we have further certainty as to when football will restart and the structure of any competitions when they do restart no decision will be made.”

The news is, there is no news.

The Referee Store
Given steps 3-6 are highly unlikely to restart, and their seasons are finished, I think that there won't be any organised promotions / removals. Some of the higher rated officials may get to "officiate up" next season; but I doubt there will be much of changes.

They'll either null and void this season for referees or will carry the merit table over to next season.

they're clearly grown tired of being pestered by refs asking them!

as with all of these issues, we dont know, they dont know, just wait and see!

Rather than start another thread, just asking for thoughts, not predictions.......

If season/league 'null and void' but football deemed safe say mid March - do you think teams/leagues will just organise friendlies or try to arrange some mini cups or some such - would that be feasible?

Would seem daft, IF, and I know its a big IF, it was declared 'safe' in the spring, to not play again until August.

Thoughts?

I'm fairly certain many Local Leagues will reach a conclusion, especially those with relatively few teams in their Divisions. Sunday Leagues may be best placed to reach a conclusion
That's not the case for 'footy on the ladder', but even they've got options available... such as resumption of football and extending the season into the next campaign. Just sayin... that's one of the options on the table
I may be shot down by some of the doom-mongers, but I remain optimistic we'll see kids playing by March and grass-roots OA shorty after
The true R number is now 0.8 to 1.0, despite the new variant and the worst possible time of year

The true R number? It was reported as 1.1-1.3 a couple of hours ago?

It's supposedly below 1 in some areas but in others still above. Chris Whitty was talking about hope by spring tonight, but did correct the PM about that being by Easter

The Govt. (or BBC) R number is not the same apparently

R number announced by the ONS is based on data up to Monday since then cases have fallen.
Zoe APP is based on more recent data.

The ONS one is the most accurate as it is based on tests randomly sent to people at home. That is still at 1.1 to 1.3 so a long way to go.

No. The Zoe figure is what we commonly think of as raw transmissability without acoounting for hospital admissions erc. Anyway, knew which doom-monger would be first off the blocks 😀 (only kidding)
Case rates could not be falling slightly if the raw R was over 2

It is insane however... that even a simple R number is subject to interpretation. They'll be sending out "circulars" soon

Yes, hope you're right. Pattern has been mostly the same since March. The 'review' date for current measures has nearly always been earlier than first stated, and restrictions have always been eased a bit earlier than thought - 'safe refereeing' by the government I guess!;)
