    Hawk-Eye

Hawkeye had a pretty big failure just this weekend in the GAA semifinals - so bad, in fact, that it was stood down for yesterday's second semi-final. I realise this is an outlier, but it shows how fallible even the best video systems can be...

    Newcastle Arsenal

Just looked up the Villa foul throw. Christ, that is egregious. shocking that the AR didn't spot that. No need to check the offside line when there's a throw, especially when it's gone backwards.

    Newcastle Arsenal

Surprised to see this hasn't been brought up already. Is it really a foul throw by Tavares? Facing the field? Check. Behind the line? Check. Ball coming from behind and over the head? Check. It definitely looked awkward, but I just don't see it as a foul throw...

    Best watch

If you have a Samsung watch that runs Wear OS (the 4 series and above, I think) try the Soccer Referee Pro app. It has battery saving options and has everything I need.

    Spurs Utd

Not a scooby what that might be ;) Think you meant dropped ball in any case.

    Leicester City

If his hands aren't there, the ball hits his face. The handball law was written to disallow hands/arms in an unnatural position. To provide a counter to all the blustering positions here, the handball law was written to disallow hands/arms in an unnatural position that stop the ball moving...

    AC Milan v Juventus handball

Stops a shot on target. Think you'll always see a caution there.

Super Trophy Istanbul between a red team and a blue team

If the decision on the field was pen, is there enough in the video to say definitely no contact? IMO no, and that's why the decision wasn't overturned by VAR.

World Cup NGA FRA (GK off line)

Before the current changes, yes would agree. But now, goalkeepers only have to keep one foot on or above the line; they are allowed to step forward. I do understand that rules are rules, and that 1cm or 20cm, the goalkeeper has encroached. Hate VAR, hate the way football is refereed now.

World Cup NGA FRA (GK off line)

Yes, point taken. But really, the referee should be looking for exactly that kind of encroachment. There's an AR to look for a double touch, and VAR to look at if the ball has crossed the line. The fact that she wasn't looking/wasn't brave enough to whistle, especially with the first decision...

World Cup NGA FRA (GK off line)

This picture is from the retaken penalty. If the French player has encroached (or even if players from both teams have encroached) the kick should have been retaken again. It smells rotten to me.

    Spurs v Man City

Think it's in line with current UEFA instructions, which were the basis for the United penalty against PSG. I think UEFA's current instructions/interpretation is where the IFAB changes are heading in June.

    Phantom Foul Confirmed by VAR

If you look, his boot has moved or snagged the attacker's sock. Not saying it's nailed on, jut looks like there was at least some contact. You can see at around :05 of the video. Do we really want to be giving penalties for this? Not sure I want to be a referee of a game where this is supposed...

    Clive Thomas approves

With a stop clock, you'd be on your watch constantly! I'm not sure we're that broken where a stop clock is needed.

    Good use of 4th

Did the ref not have a clear view? Seemed like he was in good position. What about the penalty shout that the referee said was a dive? Looked a pen to me.
