You cannot please everyone all of the time. Believe in your judgement at the time and just build on your ref skills and assertiveness. You can dissect your game later if you wish and reflect. Don't be bullied.

Perhaps a short pirouette by the ref on pointed toes whilst holding the yellow up would make the difference

Adjusted reffing according to the flow and nature of the game. I've done lots of girls/women's matches and only ever used 2 yellows on a set of twins. They were way more aggressive than the usual female players.
