Yes, we are off topic
IFAB/FIFA want this given
Old skool refs do not
If i had never discovered this forum (and the FIFA/IFAB crap on-line) and had not watched the summer WC debacle, I'd be still in the old skool

Please produce some evidence to back this up?

The Referee Store
So there is whats correct to do
And whats required to do to satisfy the top desk
I see both views and i suppose i can point to my defiance to my views that am kicking about all manner of council parks at the weekend

But i sleep safe knowing am true to myself

No ref at any level is spotting the HB at match speed, deliberate? I doubt it, seems to hurt that a goal off the hand should be scored but apart from a maybe offside I think on reflection it should stand!

It's a good night from moi
Less of the old school ;)

I had another look and think at it

If you are penalising this on the sole basis of handball as per lotg then for me, you are factually incorrect

If you are penalising it on a match control/safe option etc then I dont agree but I understand

If anybody is teliing me the scorer deliberatley handled that then am sorry in advance but your fooling yourself

This needs a law change, and can be done very simply by saying something like "if a goal is scored by the hand or arm it shall be disallowed even if the act of handling the ball is unintentional".

I agree with those that say that this was in no way a case of a player intentionally handling the ball, but …

… I equally agree with the spirit of the game comments, and a game shouldn't be decided by a player scoring a goal with a part of the hand that he isn't entitled to use to play the ball. What I would say here though is this was nigh on impossible to spot real time, and from what I saw not a single Man City player saw it as there were no protests.

So if it isn’t handball (which clearly it isn’t) but you still penalise it for ‘match control’ isn’t that inventing, or making up, an infringement?

Also I would suggest that penalising it for the non existent handball isn’t such a safe option......

As I said at the WC re defenders

Did the defender do anything to prevent the ball striking hand?

Bottom line, nobody in grass roots will be penalising that on sole basis of handball!

It seems a bit pedantic that we can't digress from topic somewhat to understand the context of one another's views. My exchange with @Padfoot was quarrelsome, but no more than necessary to probe the other person's thinking
Unless I missed something, my deleted messages were respectful of your superior experience and I certainly took no offence from your replies
@Padfoot , I could delve through previous posts and on-line resources to justify my opinion on the penalty subject, but the Moderators have extinguished my enthusiasm for this thread. We'll cross paths again I'm sure, but only briefly before reasonable dialogue is expunged

Am trying to find reasons/excuses why someone would penalise it, just throwing it out there

Am tolerant and indeed welcome differing views

I have already stated imo, no offence, goal

Almost correct.

He isn’t entitled to ‘play’ the ball with the hand/arm, but there isn’t a proscription from scoring a goal from a non deliberate, or accidental, use of the hand/arm.
Spirit of the game shouldn’t be used to pander to incorrect interpretations of the Laws.....

Not getting off the hook that easy......you were adamant that IFAB/UEFA would expect a handball offence to be given....despite it being the very epitome of an accidental handball.......

I still want to see the evidence that supports that assertion.

Definitely handball but it definitely looked like a header at first viewing and barely any opponents appealed as well and they were even closer. Very hard for the ref and assistants to spot.

You think he deliberatley handled that ball?

Get him on NASA/MENSA/Catchphrase whatever, because he has superior brain speed to us plebs

maybe not ‘definitely’, but I do think it can be perceived as deliberate

And do you think its deliberate?

Cos if you do, fine

But if you dont, pray tell why you penalising him?

Let me put it to you that, you dont actually believe its handball but you want an easy ride so you are going to convince yourself you have reason to chalk it off

Lotg

Deliberate
