I think a few of us are scratching our heads there

he won’t get any plaudits from the pundits etc for that decision but to make an instant call on diving, 85 minutes into a World Cup final with this atmosphere is incredibly brave. Superb refereeing

Agree. Perhaps there was cover -off camera, but he was definitely in control of the ball.

Attempting to win the ball has nothing to do with DOGSO or not. It only determines the colour of the card if DOGSO. I think direction of play and angle created some doubt. But in reality, it takes a lot more certainty (than your everyday DOGSO) to send someone off in a WC final.
