Promotions - Season Ending 2024

Well all I can say is that it has never occurred to me to be any different to me in any shape or form or whether it be home, work or play & nor will it - consciously or unconsciously.
That's the point of it being an unconscious bias, you cannot tell you're doing it.

As i said last time why not just use the merit table and nobody csn make claims of unfairness.

This is a sad scenario.

Without even looking at the equality aspect, how is it fairer that a referee who finishes near the top of the merit table but falls one game short of qualifying for promotion because he's had 6 postponements throughout the year doesn't get the chance to prove himself and it automatically drops down to the next highest referee who has more middles because he either specialises or he got luckier on postponements?

With regards to the equality aspect, I've a strong feeling this thread may be headed in a direction we don't want it to, fast.

Merit tables based on scores created by humans based on their subjective interpretations!
As much as I think things could be improved, of course the tables are based on subjective interpretations. Unless you're marking a maths or science paper, all forms of marking will have an element of interpretation.

I don't doubt you

I’ve just received a phone call from a Referee informing me he has been promoted to Specialist Assistant on the National League - Prem, Step 1 and he is 55. So anyone young or old, but good enough and can pass the fitness test, then all deserve to be promoted.

Well done to that Referee

I agree with you on this one. I am not sure what else he would expect.

Sure, which is why colleges and university across the world take lower grades for people disadvantaged by discrimination and bias.

You can either choose to take it as a personal insult or recognise it's a phenomenon of evolutionary biology to recognise and adapt to when it comes to meritocracy.

Yes, some of them do. But what has that got to do with refereeing? I've heard of them wanting to make refereeing more diverse, and rightfully so. However I have never seen a directive to promote someone because of their background or upbringing.........

Just an example of how organisations that want to be more diverse (like the FA for example) deploy positive discrimination to overcome the unconscious and let's face it conscious bias non white blokes face
