Non-driving referees

Stopped doing youth football when they asked me to pay for my own DBS check.
Still allowed me to do one a month without one!
All this despite the fact that as a match official, you do not have "significant" contact. As I understand it, if the FA so decided, DBS checks need not be a prerequisite!
Climbs down from soapbox.........

Yeah you're right I don't think from a legal point of view youth refs CRC are really required, but I guess it helps. It's not like you spend time alone with the kids and you're in a public arena. Getting it done anyway.

What's the current ruling on this? As "minors" can play for open age teams, don't we still have to be DBS checked, even if you don't do youth football?
I beleive a crc is required where more than 25% of players are under 18.

Expect a change on the CRC/DBS thing soon. Observers, who have even less interaction with junior players/referees than the rest of you, have to have up to date safeguarding and CRC in place for the start of 2017/18 season. If we have to, you will have to sooner or later.

Bloody ridiculous, wish I hadn't retired so I could give it up in protest............
